The 512GB, all-digital Xbox Series S was reported at about $379.99 (roughly $380) during Amazon Prime Day 2026, down about $20 from the then-current $399.99 price. Amazon’s event ran June 23–26, so that Prime Day price is expired unless a retailer independently restores it. Microsoft’s U.S. store page later showed the standard model starting at $399.99 and out of stock when checked. Amazon’s event dates and the reported deal price do not establish that this was the lowest U.S. transaction price in several months.
What the Prime Day deal actually was
The offer concerned the Robot White Xbox Series S with a 512GB SSD, not the higher-capacity 1TB model. It is an all-digital console with no disc drive. The contemporary deal report rounded the price to $380 versus $400; the implied saving was approximately $20, or 5%.
| Reference | Amount and qualification |
|---|---|
| Prime Day transaction price | About $379.99, commonly rounded to $380 |
| Comparison price | About $399.99, the then-current price signal |
| Approximate saving | $20, before sales tax |
| Launch-era price | $299.99; historical context, not a valid current “was” price |
| Later U.S. MSRP reporting | $499 for 512GB and $599 for 1TB after Microsoft’s August 1, 2026 price update, as reported from the announcement |
The original listing’s seller, fulfillment method, stock quantity, controller bundle, and any coupon treatment should be verified on the live Amazon page rather than inferred from the rounded deal headline. Amazon listings can switch between new, refurbished, used, and marketplace inventory.
Is it really the cheapest in months?
There is not enough published U.S. price-history data here to prove the headline claim literally. “Cheapest in months” could mean the lowest price for a new 512GB unit at Amazon, the lowest new price across retailers, the lowest price including used and refurbished consoles, or the lowest effective price after coupons and gift cards. Those are different comparisons.

TechRadar notes that the Series S has historically reached a $299.99 price point and often receives reductions of around $50 when a substantial discount appears. That makes $379.99 a real discount, but a modest one against earlier sale history: TechRadar’s Xbox deal guidance. The later MSRP increase makes the expired Prime Day price look far better against today’s reported list price, but that is context—not proof of a record-low sale.
Deal status and what to check now
Prime Day 2026 began at 3 a.m. ET on June 23 and ended at midnight after June 26, according to the event coverage. On an August 16 update, treat the $379.99 figure as historical. Check the current listing for all of these details before paying:

What you get for the money
Strengths
- A smaller, cheaper entry into the current Xbox ecosystem. Microsoft says the Series S is 60% smaller than Series X.
- A custom 512GB NVMe SSD, fast loading, and backward compatibility across four Xbox generations.
- Support for up to 120fps in compatible games and displays; actual frame rate depends on the game and output settings.
- A sensible fit for 1080p or 1440p televisions, bedrooms, and secondary consoles.
- Access to Xbox Game Pass, which is sold separately. See the current plan options at Xbox Game Pass.
Compromises
- No disc drive: games, movies, and backward-compatible purchases must be digital.
- 512GB is restrictive after system storage and a few large modern games are installed.
- Lower graphics performance and less upgrade headroom than Series X; it is not the right Xbox for native-4K priorities.
- Expansion cards can be expensive. Compare the live price of the Seagate Xbox Storage Expansion Card with the cost of moving to a higher-capacity console.
- Game Pass, extra storage, additional controllers, and games can erase the apparent hardware saving.
Series S or Series X?
| Choose Series S when… | Choose Series X when… |
|---|---|
| Lowest upfront cost matters most | You want maximum Xbox graphics performance |
| You use a 1080p or 1440p display | You own a 4K TV and care about image quality |
| Digital-only ownership is acceptable | You need discs or UHD Blu-ray |
| It will be a secondary or family console | It will be your primary system for years |
| You expect to use Game Pass heavily | You want more storage and longer performance headroom |
The Series S and Series X share the Xbox ecosystem, but they are not performance equivalents. The stronger model costs more; its value is clearest when display quality, storage, and physical media matter.

Series S or PS5?
A discounted Series S is not automatically the best console deal. Prime Day coverage found meaningful PS5 discounts in the U.K. and argued that a PS5 could be the better overall purchase for shoppers without a firm Xbox preference: TechRadar’s Prime Day comparison. For a U.S. purchase, compare current local prices and consider:
- Exclusive games and the franchises you actually want to play.
- Physical versus digital ownership.
- Online multiplayer and subscription costs.
- Storage included in each configuration.
- Cloud saves, PC integration, and Xbox Play Anywhere if those features matter.
For current PlayStation configurations, use PlayStation Direct’s U.S. buying page.

New, refurbished, or used?
A new Series S at about $380 can be preferable to a slightly cheaper refurbished unit when warranty and return rights are materially better. Used listings may cost less, but inspect the controller, HDMI cable, fan noise, storage behavior, and whether the seller offers a meaningful return window. Do not compare a marketplace listing directly with a new, retailer-backed Prime Day unit without adjusting for those risks. Microsoft’s refurbished inventory is listed at Microsoft Certified Refurbished.
Does Prime membership pay for itself?
Prime Day was members-only. Amazon’s U.S. pricing signal was $14.99 per month or $139 per year, with a 30-day trial for eligible new users: Amazon’s Prime information. An existing member receives the full roughly $20 nominal saving. A shopper joining only for this console would spend most of that saving on one month of membership and should check trial eligibility, renewal terms, and cancellation timing. Shipping and other planned purchases may change the calculation.

Who should buy—and who should wait
Buy when
- You find a new 512GB unit near $380 with a strong return policy.
- You play digitally on a 1080p or 1440p display.
- You are comfortable budgeting separately for Game Pass and possible storage expansion.
- You specifically want Xbox’s library, cloud ecosystem, or PC integration.
Skip or upgrade when
- You need discs, used-game shopping, or UHD Blu-ray.
- You expect 4K-focused performance or want the primary console with the most headroom.
- You will install many large games and do not want an expansion card.
- A Series X, PS5, or certified-refurbished alternative is close enough in price to offer better total value.
Verdict
The Prime Day Series S deal was a legitimate approximately $20 reduction on the 512GB model, but the event ended June 26 and the evidence does not prove it was the cheapest price in months. Buy at roughly $380 only when the listing is new, correctly identifies the 512GB console, and has dependable returns. Do not pay a premium for a stale “Prime Day” label, and do not mistake the later $499 reported MSRP for proof that the earlier sale set a historical record.
