In his October 5 update, he acknowledged that his position helped get the problem handled quickly—and that most people do not have comparable reach. His account raises a real question about equal access to support, but the technical cause of the takeover and Sony’s specific response have not been established.
What happened to RealRadec’s PlayStation account?
On October 3, Radec posted that his PlayStation account had been hacked. As reported by Push Square, he said attempts to log in, change his password, sign out of devices and re-enable two-factor authentication did not resolve the problem. He also said the account’s email address had been changed. Those are Radec’s reported details, not an independently verified forensic account of how the compromise occurred.
Two days later, Radec said he had his account back and thanked people who had offered help and advice. He also pointed directly to the difference that his profile made: “It would be foolish of me not to acknowledge that this was dealt with as quickly as possible because of the position I’m in. Not many people have that reach, and I am fully aware of that.” Push Square described him at the time as having more than 30,000 followers on X; that is a contemporaneous outlet-reported figure, not a current follower count.
Why Radec says the recovery issue matters
Radec argued that account theft can mean losing access to games, DLC, save data and trophies, and wrote: “No one deserves to get their account stolen from them and lose access to all of their games, DLC, save data, Trophies, etc,” followed by: “This needs to change.” The concern he raised is not only whether a high-profile creator can recover an account, but whether ordinary players can get timely help when they cannot draw public attention to their case.

The available accounts do not give a consistent set of details with which to measure how long recovery took, what verification Sony required, or whether Radec lost access to particular purchases or saved data. His public acknowledgment establishes that he believed his position accelerated the handling of his case; it does not establish how Sony’s support process works for other users.
What is—and is not—known about the account takeover
WGB’s October 6 update attributes a more detailed sequence to Radec: he reportedly received a notice that two-factor authentication had been disabled, followed by a burst of account-change emails and then a changed email address that locked him out. This remains secondary reporting of his account, not a verified explanation of the attack.

A separate May 2026 report by Push Square covered podcaster Colin Moriarty’s account compromise and recovery. Moriarty said his Sony connections helped him regain access. That report also relayed journalist Nicolas Lellouche’s hypothesis that customer-support processes could be abused through social engineering using information such as a transaction ID. It is context for discussion of account recovery, not proof that social engineering—or any particular method—was involved in Radec’s case.
What Sony has said about this case
The sources available for this incident do not document Sony’s specific response to Radec or identify security changes made because of it. PlayStation’s official support page on account, communication and console suspensions explains suspension-related support and certain appeal routes; it does not describe this account takeover or establish the recovery procedure Sony used here.

Likewise, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s February 2025 Online Safety Report discusses moderation and appeals for permanently suspended accounts. It says that permanently suspended users can appeal through a dedicated webform, but that is a suspension appeal—not an account-takeover recovery route. Neither official source answers what happened in Radec’s case.

Radec recovered his account and publicly recognized that his reach helped speed up the response. What remains unanswered is whether Sony will explain or change its account-recovery practices in response to this incident. The available reporting does not establish that it has done so.
