The reported October 1–8, 2026 lineup is System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary and BURIED STARS. TechWiser lists both games as claimable until October 8 at 8:00 AM PT, but Epic’s store listing is the authoritative place to confirm the titles and deadline before claiming: Epic Games Store free games.
Epic says its weekly free game offer changes on Thursday at 8 AM PT and stays available to claim for seven days. The exact end of this particular offer is reported as October 8 at 8:00 AM PT; availability can depend on the live listing, so check it if you’re reading this near the deadline.
Is System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary worth claiming?
PC Gamer’s October 1 recommendation is yes. The 2025 remaster is a space-based survival-horror immersive sim set aboard a ship overtaken by a fleshy hivemind. It offers three broad character classes and multiple ways to approach challenges, making it a natural fit if you like exploring, building a character, and choosing how to handle threats rather than playing a straightforward action game.

PC Gamer’s writer praises the remaster’s look and performance and says it supports gamepad play. Those are the author’s impressions, not an independent benchmark or compatibility test. A controller is optional; no specific model is required or identified.
What is the other free game?
BURIED STARS is the second title in the reported lineup. TechWiser describes it as a mystery adventure about contestants on a survival-audition show who become trapped after a building collapse, then face a murder mystery. That makes it the more story-and-mystery-oriented pick of the two, while System Shock 2 leans into sci-fi horror and immersive-sim gameplay.

How to claim the games
- Sign in to an Epic Games account and make sure two-factor authentication is enabled. Epic states that both are required to claim a weekly free game.
- Open the Epic Games Store free games page and confirm the current offer and its countdown.
- Select each eligible game and complete the free checkout before the offer expires.
After a successful claim, Epic says the game stays in your account permanently, even if you do not download it right away. You can install it later through your Epic Games Library.

If either game appeals to you, claiming it is the useful move: the reported offer costs nothing during its window, and a successful claim keeps the game in your account. Prioritize System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary if you want a sci-fi horror immersive sim; choose BURIED STARS if a mystery adventure sounds more appealing.
