Tiny PS5 Redux is a reported custom PlayStation 5 conversion, not a Sony console. Its creator rebuilt the hardware in an enclosure of about six liters, using a 500 W GaN power supply, a low-profile cooler, several fans and redesigned airflow. Coverage reports lower temperatures and power draw than both a stock PS5 and the earlier Tiny PS5 build, but the measurements come from one creator-attributed game test rather than independent validation.
What Tiny PS5 Redux actually is
The project repackages PS5 hardware in a custom aluminum chassis with dark acrylic panels, 3D-printed parts and a carry handle. That handle also functions as an exhaust area. The reported volume is approximately six liters, making the machine substantially smaller and easier to carry than a standard retail console.
It remains a heavily modified PS5 motherboard and cooling system. Redux is not a new PlayStation model, an officially supported Sony design or a consumer upgrade kit. Building one requires fabrication, electrical work and custom mechanical fitment.
Why the original tiny build shut down
The earlier Tiny PS5 project reportedly suffered random shutdowns in newer games. Creator testing attributed those shutdowns to a 250 W gallium-nitride power supply struggling when workloads exceeded about 230 W—not to a general overheating defect in ordinary PS5 consoles.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Redux reportedly replaces that supply with a 500 W GaN unit. The additional headroom addresses the failure mode identified in the earlier build, although the available coverage does not establish a complete electrical design, protection analysis or long-term reliability result.
How the Redux cooling layout works
The cooling system is a coordinated redesign rather than one replacement fan:

- The original heatsink plates are retained.
- An Alpenföhn Black Ridge low-profile cooler is added.
- Two slim 120 mm Noctua fans operate in a push-pull arrangement.
- Three 60 mm Noctua fans exhaust through the handle area.
- A redesigned 3D-printed intake shroud directs incoming air.
- A neoprene gasket is intended to limit hot-air recirculation around the intake path.
Exact fan SKUs, the complete duct geometry and the assembly sequence have not been established by the available reporting. Those details matter: substituting a fan or changing the shroud can alter pressure, clearance, noise and cooling performance.

| Configuration | Average temperature | Reported power draw |
|---|---|---|
| Stock PS5 | About 59 °C | About 230–235 W |
| Earlier Tiny PS5 | About 56 °C | About 220–225 W |
| Tiny PS5 Redux | About 50 °C | Under 220 W |
These are creator-attributed figures reported in 2025 coverage. They describe a particular game and settings; no independent replication, ambient-room record, noise comparison or long-duration reliability test was established. They should therefore be read as evidence that the redesigned build performed better in that test, not as a universal PS5 benchmark or a guarantee against future shutdowns.

Digital-only operation
Reports describe a digital-only arrangement. The disc-drive control board is retained inside the case for firmware-update compatibility, but the project does not provide the normal external disc-drive experience. Exact firmware behavior and implementation details were not independently verified.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Expanded internal storage
The layout reportedly makes room for a full-size 2280 M.2 SSD by using an extension cable and a custom bracket. Compatible drive models, cable specifications and clearance requirements are not stated, so a builder should not assume that any 2280 drive or extension will fit safely.
Wireless connectivity
The aluminum enclosure can affect wireless signal. Redux reportedly moves Wi-Fi antennas inside the case and uses external Bluetooth antennas. These are project-specific adaptations, not a general recommendation for an unmodified PS5.

Can you build one yourself?
In principle, yes—but “you can do it too” means reproducing a custom hardware project, not following a documented retail procedure. The reports do not establish a complete bill of materials, exact component numbers, fabrication drawings, tool list, total cost or a verified step-by-step guide.
A responsible build plan would require, at minimum:
- A compatible PS5 motherboard and donor-console components.
- The creator’s current enclosure dimensions and 3D-print files.
- Verified power-supply ratings, wiring, insulation and protection details.
- Confirmed cooler, fan, shroud, gasket and bracket dimensions.
- A safe method for relocating antennas and the disc-drive control board.
- Thermal, electrical and stability testing under sustained load.
Do not treat the reported temperatures as a substitute for those checks. The 500 W supply, custom airflow path and retained console protections must all be integrated correctly; an improvised replacement can create electrical, thermal or mechanical hazards and may destroy the console.
What Redux improves—and what it does not prove

| Storage | Reported support for a full-size 2280 M.2 SSD via an extension and bracket. | Exact compatible parts are not stated. |
| Discs | Digital-only case layout with the control board retained. | Normal disc use is not part of the reported configuration. |
| Build difficulty and cost | Requires custom aluminum and 3D-printed fabrication. | No verified parts total, price or complete instructions are available. |
Bottom line for PS5 owners
Tiny PS5 Redux is an impressive custom engineering exercise that addresses the earlier project’s reported power-supply limitation while refining airflow in a six-liter enclosure. Its lower readings are promising within the stated game test, but they do not show that standard PS5 consoles suffer a widespread overheating problem, nor do they make this a practical plug-and-play modification. For most owners, the project is best understood as a specialized build to study or reproduce only with complete creator documentation and careful electrical and thermal validation.
