Toaplan Arcade Garage: Flying Fire Shark is a two-game collection built around the 1987 arcade shooter Flying Shark and its 1989 follow-up, Fire Shark. Its appeal is the contrast: a more approachable, pattern-learning game alongside a faster, less forgiving one, with modern practice aids available when arcade-style difficulty gets demanding. M2 developed and published the collection, according to Nintendo’s US Switch listing.
What games are included?
The core package includes Flying Shark (1987) and Fire Shark (1989), as identified on Nintendo’s US product page. They share a vertical-shooter framework, but the contemporary Creative Bloq review, published September 14, 2026, describes them as meaningfully different in pace and approachability.
Flying Shark is the easier entry point
Creative Bloq found Flying Shark more playable and more inviting for learning enemy patterns. That is the reviewer’s assessment rather than a universal difficulty ranking, but it makes this the natural starting point for players new to the pair.
Fire Shark raises the pressure
The same review characterizes Fire Shark as faster and less forgiving. Players who enjoy a tougher test may prefer it; those looking to learn the collection’s rhythms will likely find the original game a gentler introduction.

Does the collection make these arcade games easier to learn?
Yes. Nintendo lists several ways to approach the games beyond their faithful arcade-style presentation. Arcade Mode is described as a faithful recreation, while Super Easy Mode reduces the barrier to entry. M2 Gadgets add information tools, and Arcade Challenge breaks stages into smaller areas and includes rewind, making focused practice less punishing. Nintendo’s US listing presents the package as a route from practice toward a one-credit clear, but that remains a challenge rather than a guaranteed outcome.
M2 also says players can download replay data from ranked players, a useful way to study routes and decisions rather than relying only on trial and error: M2’s feature information.

Which mode should you choose?
| Mode or feature | What it offers | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|
| Arcade Mode | Nintendo describes it as a faithful recreation. | Players who want the classic arcade-style experience. |
| Super Easy Mode | An easier way to play, as listed by Nintendo. | Newcomers or anyone prioritizing access over the original challenge. |

| M2 Gadgets | Additional information tools, as listed by Nintendo. | Players who want more context while learning or playing. |
These options serve different preferences rather than replacing one another: Arcade Mode preserves the collection’s arcade framing, while the assistance features let players work through its demands in smaller, more manageable ways.
How does it play on a modern screen?
Nintendo lists TV, tabletop, and handheld play on Switch, with one-system play for one or two players. The Creative Bloq review also discusses TATE mode—rotating the display for a vertical presentation—and favors it as a way to show off the games’ upright shooter layout. Whether that setup is practical depends on the screen and how you play; Switch’s listed handheld and tabletop options offer flexibility, while TV play avoids having to hold or rotate the console.

What is included in each edition?
The two-game lineup is confirmed on Nintendo’s US Switch listing. The US PlayStation Store listing for PS4 additionally calls Teki-Paki a bonus game. Creative Bloq reports that extra versions of the games and Wardner are downloadable content for the digital edition and are included with a more expensive physical edition. Those edition details can differ by platform, territory, or current offer, so check the exact listing you plan to buy rather than assuming every version contains the same extras.

Release date and platforms
Nintendo’s US listing gives the Switch release date as August 29, 2026; the US PlayStation Store gives the same date for PS4. These are dates from those regional store pages, not a claim about availability in every territory. Nintendo lists the Switch product for TV, tabletop, and handheld play.

For fans of classic vertical shooters, the strongest case is the combination of two related but distinct games and practical tools for learning them. Flying Shark is the more approachable starting point in Creative Bloq’s review, while Fire Shark supplies the sharper challenge. Rewind, smaller practice sections, and other support make the collection more accommodating than an unassisted arcade run, without removing the option to play in a faithful mode. The main buying caveat is that bonus games and extra versions are not consistent across the cited platform and edition descriptions.
