This is a retrospective of ten Android games recommended in April 2018—not a claim about the best games to download today, and not a list limited to games that launched that month. The selections below follow Android Headlines’ April 6 list; its article offers recommendations rather than a disclosed ranking method. A separate April-release roundup used a stricter “released this month” definition, so a selection of new launches looks different. Pricing, availability, online services and game versions may have changed since 2018.
What “best” meant in April 2018
Android Headlines’ monthly list mixed established releases and newly prominent games across action, shooters, puzzles, racing, rhythm and licensed RPGs. It did not publish a scoring system or establish that every title launched in April. Treat the order below as a reader-focused guide to the list, not an objective ranking based on sales, review averages or device testing.
The descriptions and time-sensitive details in this retrospective are based on Android Headlines’ April 6, 2018 article. That source does not provide consistent details on device requirements, offline play, controller support or monetization for all ten games, so those points are identified as unconfirmed rather than guessed.
The ten picks
1. PUBG Mobile — competitive battle royale
What it is: A mobile adaptation of PUBG’s large-scale battle-royale format, built around competing against other players until one player or team remains. In 2018, it stood out as a major competitive multiplayer option on Android.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Best for: Players who want tense matches and online competition. Trade-off: It depends on multiplayer connectivity, and its large-scale 3D action may be a poor fit for older or less capable phones; the source provides no device-by-device performance testing. Android Headlines reported that cross-play was not supported when its article appeared in April 2018. That is a dated statement, not a description of current platform support.
Access note: The article does not establish its complete 2018 pricing or purchase model. It also cannot confirm present availability or service status.
2. Shadowgun Legends — shooter with RPG progression
What it is: A first-person shooter/RPG featuring character creation, customizable loadouts, quests, dungeons, raids and gear progression. The mix makes it a fit for players who want shooting alongside longer-term character development.
Best for: Players drawn to loot, missions and cooperative-style activities. Android Headlines compared its ambition to Destiny; that is a loose genre comparison, not a claim that the games offer equivalent content. Trade-off: Its progression and live-service framing may not suit someone seeking a self-contained shooter, and the source does not establish current server or matchmaking status.
Access note: The source does not specify all costs, offline behavior or hardware requirements.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
3. Honkai Impact 3rd — anime-styled action RPG
What it is: A 3D action game with anime presentation, unlockable characters, customizable loadouts, weapons and upgradeable skills. Its visual ambition and character-focused combat made it a notable action-RPG pick.
Best for: Players who enjoy anime aesthetics, action combat and building character setups. Trade-off: The style will not appeal to everyone, and ambitious 3D presentation is a reason to check compatibility on an older phone rather than assume smooth performance. The 2018 source does not document hardware testing or current requirements.
Access note: Pricing, connectivity and current service status are not established by the cited 2018 article.
4. Pako 2 — arcade getaway driving
What it is: An arcade racing game with polygonal visuals, an angled top-down view, straightforward controls and multiple vehicle types. Its immediate chase-driven play contrasts with simulation racers that emphasize realistic handling.
Best for: Players who want quick, accessible driving action. Trade-off: Repeating chase-based play may feel narrow if you want a full racing simulation. Android Headlines described Pako 2 as free in April 2018; that historical description does not confirm its current price or explain any ads or purchases.
Rank #3

- Travel Must-Have for People On the Go: A must-have travel accessory for flights, flying, airports, air travel, airplanes, planes, international trips, cruises, and long travel days. Key gadget for your airport haul, travel accessories and must-haves.
5. Cytus II — rhythm action
What it is: An anime-influenced rhythm game built around tapping in time with music. Android Headlines reported 60 songs in the version it covered, with half available to play free and half locked behind purchase.
Best for: Rhythm-game fans who want a substantial music-led challenge. Trade-off: The split between free and paid songs affected how much a non-paying player could access in 2018. Song counts and access rules can change; the figure is not a current catalog guarantee.

What it is: A top-down twin-stick shooter and follow-up to Neon Chrome, with cybernetic modifications, weapons and upgradeable items.
Best for: Players who prefer compact, direct shooting and build customization. Trade-off: Its top-down perspective and twin-stick format are more specific tastes than a conventional first- or third-person shooter. The cited article does not quantify campaign length or difficulty.
Access note: The source does not give a complete pricing or offline-play account.

7. Umiro — colorful logic puzzles
What it is: A visually distinctive puzzle game that Android Headlines compared in appearance with the Monument Valley series. Its appeal is in solving abstract logic challenges rather than mastering combat or racing.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Best for: Players who like thoughtful puzzles and a stylized presentation. Trade-off: If you want fast action or extensive progression systems, its puzzle-first design may not hold your interest. The source does not establish its length, price or offline behavior.
8. MARVEL Strike Force — superhero team RPG
What it is: A team-based RPG with Marvel heroes and villains, character upgrades and 5v5 combat described by Android Headlines as apparently turn-based.
Best for: Marvel fans who want to assemble a roster and develop characters. Trade-off: The licensed setting is part of the appeal, but the 2018 source does not provide enough detail to quantify progression costs or determine how spending affected advancement. Do not treat the article as evidence of current balance, prices or service status.
9. Message Quest – The Amazing Adventures of Feste — narrative puzzle adventure
What it is: A story-led game with stained-glass-inspired visuals, puzzle mechanics, character relationships and boss fights presented in a JRPG-like style.

Best for: Players looking for a slower, more artistic experience than a conventional action game. Trade-off: Its narrative and puzzle focus is a different proposition from the high-action picks on this list. The source does not establish its complete pricing model, length or offline behavior.
10. DanMachi – MEMORIA FREESE — anime tie-in RPG
What it is: An RPG based on the DanMachi anime, featuring characters to unlock and upgrade, anime-style cutscenes and PvP.

Other games reported as April 2018 releases
A different interpretation—games described as released during April rather than games recommended that month—produces a substantially different set. Uptodown published an April 23 roundup of ten such titles. Its article does not establish whether every launch was global, and regional availability could differ.
- Attack on Titan – Dedicate Your Heart: An anime tie-in with rhythm-influenced RPG combat; Uptodown said it was not translated into Western languages at the time.
- Maze: Shadow of Light: An action RPG noted for unusual graphics.
- ONE PIECE Bounty Rush: A game based on the One Piece franchise.
- Hide Online: Multiplayer hide-and-seek in which players disguise themselves as objects while opponents search.
- Retro Highway: A motorcycle game inspired by Hang-On, with unlockable content.
- Dragon Nest M: An anime-styled mobile MMORPG adaptation.
- BanG Dream! Girls Band Party!: A rhythm game with virtual idols, songs, dialogue and five music groups.
- Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle: A licensed horror puzzle game.
- Fishing Strike: A fishing game from Netmarble emphasizing presentation and fish-catching play.
Uptodown also included Pako 2, the overlap between the two lists. These descriptions come from Uptodown’s April 23, 2018 roundup; they are not proof that every title remains available or supported.
What to check before trying an old pick now
- Store listing and region: A historical Android listing does not guarantee that the game is currently downloadable in your country.
- Price and purchases: Only Pako 2’s free description and Cytus II’s free-versus-paid song split are specified here, and both are historical details from 2018.
- Online services: Multiplayer, PvP, raids or matchmaking can depend on servers and active players; the cited articles do not verify current service status.
- Compatibility: Neither source supplies current Android-version requirements, file sizes, accessibility details or reliable performance guidance.
- Download source: Check a publisher’s official distribution channel when available. A historical marketplace link alone does not establish current availability or publisher authorization in every region.
Together, the two lists show the range of Android games receiving attention in that period: mobile battle royale, ambitious 3D action, free-to-play and character-collection RPGs, licensed anime and comic properties, and smaller puzzle, rhythm and arcade games. That is a historical snapshot, not a measurement of the wider market.
