Whether it is worth your time depends on how much you enjoy experimenting with builds and returning for seasonal updates—and how comfortable you are with in-game purchases. Store comments offer examples of both enthusiasm and frustration, but they are individual opinions, not a reliable verdict on the game as a whole.
What Torchlight: Infinite is designed to offer
XD describes Torchlight: Infinite as a loot-based action RPG. Its Steam listing presents it as an ongoing game, advertising the Afterlight season as launching July 16, 2026, alongside season events and rewards. In its 2025 results, XD said it hopes to keep attracting players through seasonal updates. That points to a repeatable loop: develop a character and build, pursue loot and progression, then engage with the game’s changing seasonal content.
The official materials establish that seasonal operation is part of the game’s proposition; they do not establish how much endgame variety a player will find, or how satisfying the combat and build choices feel in practice. If you are comparing it with another ARPG, weigh those questions against your own preferences rather than treating the seasonal format as proof of depth.
Is Torchlight: Infinite worth playing?
It is a reasonable candidate if you want a free-to-start loot ARPG, like trying different character builds, and are interested in a game that continues through seasonal updates. It is a less certain fit if you want a strong tutorial, a particular combat feel, or a monetization model you can evaluate before installing: the reviewed sources do not settle those questions with current, representative gameplay evidence.

#1 Best Overall
Player comments illustrate why reactions can differ. A Google Play comment raises concerns about combat feel and balance. An Apple App Store review praises build possibilities and art while also criticizing tutorials and monetization; that review dates to 2022, so it cannot establish current prices or the present experience. These are examples from individual reviews, not findings about all players or a current consensus.
Is Torchlight: Infinite free to play?
Yes. Steam labels the game “Free To Play” and also flags in-app purchases. The same listing includes single-player, online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. It says cross-platform PC/mobile play requires binding a third-party account, such as TapTap. The listing confirms purchases are available, but does not establish current prices or what specific purchases do to progression.
Rank #2
- Randomization – Game level layouts are randomly created, so each adventure will always be unique.
- Easy, approachable interface – Torchlight is designed to be easy to play right from the beginning. With an intuitive interface, players can dive right in!
- Character Classes – Players will create and customize a character, choosing from 3 main Classes: The Destroyer, The Alchemist, or The Vanquisher.
- Pets – choose a pet to accompany your character. Pets can level up along with the player; they can also fight, carry items, and perform helpful tasks.
Is it pay to win?
The available evidence does not support a definitive pay-to-win verdict. In-app purchases are confirmed, but the reviewed Steam listing does not explain the gameplay effect of individual purchases. An Apple review’s concern about the season pass is from 2022 and should not be used to describe current pricing or prove a current gameplay advantage.
If this is a deciding factor, look at the current in-game purchase descriptions and ask whether the items affect power or progression in a way you consider material. The evidence here establishes that spending is possible, not the specific impact of each purchase.

Does Torchlight: Infinite support controllers?
Yes. XD’s seasonal update says controller operation is available on PC and mobile. That confirms support in general, not compatibility with every controller, device or setup. Check the game’s current device-level compatibility information before buying a particular controller; a controller is optional, not a stated requirement.

There is no controlled comparison here, so use these questions to decide what matters to you rather than treating them as a ranking:
Quick Recap
- Build and character customization: Do the available characters and build choices suit the kind of experimentation you enjoy?
- Seasonal replay: Does returning for seasonal progression and events appeal to you, and does the current season offer the kind of repeatable play you want?
- Monetization: Are you comfortable with in-app purchases when their specific effects need to be checked in the current game?
- Onboarding: Does the tutorial explain enough for you to understand its systems? One 2022 review criticized the tutorial, but that alone does not establish its current quality.
- Input and platform: Do you prefer PC or mobile, and does controller operation work with your own device and setup?
