The claim originated with a May 2024 report from DualShockers, relayed by GameSpot and GamesRadar. As of October 2026, the official Total War announcements we could find concern other games, including Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 and Total War: MEDIEVAL III.
What was reported
On May 17, 2024, DualShockers reported that Creative Assembly was working on three Total War games, one of them set in the Star Wars universe. GameSpot, in a story by George Yang published the same day, said the Star Wars project seemingly began development in October 2023. GamesRadar’s account described the Star Wars project as the second of the three projects in the report. Neither outlet reported a release date, platforms, or gameplay details for it, and GameSpot said details about the third project were unknown.

Where the claim comes from
DualShockers cited sources familiar with Creative Assembly’s plans. The original DualShockers article could not be checked directly, so the account here rests on how GameSpot and GamesRadar described it. Both outlets presented the development start date as part of that reporting rather than as a fact they had verified.
GamesRadar noted in May 2024 that Creative Assembly and SEGA had not responded to the report at the time of its article. That is a statement about 2024 only. It does not establish whether either company has commented since.

What the official announcements say
Creative Assembly and SEGA have announced several Total War projects since the report, but none of the official pages reviewed names Star Wars. The sections below cover each official source and what it does and does not establish.
Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000
Creative Assembly’s official page for Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 calls it a new chapter for the series. It describes a far-future setting with deep strategy, cinematic battles, meaningful choices, and a galactic sandbox. This shows that Creative Assembly is developing a science-fiction Total War game, but the announced setting is Warhammer 40,000, not Star Wars. A June 2026 SEGA update lists the game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), with the release date and price still undecided. Those details apply only to WARHAMMER 40,000.

Roger Collum’s year-end message
In a year-end message, Total War Vice President Roger Collum named Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, Total War: MEDIEVAL III, and Total War: WARHAMMER III, and said: “We’re looking forward to sharing more with you on all three of these projects throughout 2026.” The message names three projects and does not mention a Star Wars game. Its reference to “additional plans” is not tied to any specific title.
The 25th Anniversary Showcase
SEGA’s June 2025 anniversary announcement promised new Total War game and content announcements at the franchise showcase. The official showcase page describes the projects announced there. Neither the announcement nor the page mentions Star Wars.

What is and is not established
- Established: A May 2024 report said Creative Assembly was developing a Star Wars Total War game, and GameSpot and GamesRadar relayed it.
- Established: Creative Assembly has officially announced Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000, and Creative Assembly and SEGA have named MEDIEVAL III and WARHAMMER III as upcoming projects.
- Not established: Any official confirmation of a Star Wars Total War game, including its existence, development start, platforms, or release window.
- Not established: Whether the project was cancelled, paused, or changed. The absence of an announcement does not prove that private development never occurred, and it does not prove that an announcement could not come later.
What would count as confirmation
A report should be treated as confirmed only if one of the following appears:
- An announcement on Creative Assembly’s or SEGA’s official website or social accounts that names a Star Wars Total War game.
- A statement from Creative Assembly or SEGA, such as a press release or an interview with a studio executive, that addresses the 2024 report directly.
- An official store page or platform listing for a Star Wars Total War game, which would also establish platforms and release status.
Reports that repeat the 2024 claim without citing one of these sources add no new evidence.
How to read the 2024 timeline
The October 2023 start date comes only from the 2024 reporting. It is not confirmed by any official source. Readers should treat it as the reported start of development, not as a verified production milestone, and should not use it to estimate a release date. The official announcements that do exist cover different games, so they neither support nor rule out the reported project.
