The White House Rapid Response account amplified the joke with an image of President Donald Trump as Master Chief and the caption “Power to the Players.” Neither post was a literal settlement or an announcement that Microsoft had changed its approach to console competition.
Why GameStop said the console wars were over
Halo Studios announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, a remake of the original Halo: Combat Evolved campaign, on October 24, 2025. The initial platform list included Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. The next day, GameStop posted a mock proclamation calling the console wars an “ongoing and increasingly petty conflict” and declaring their “official cessation” because Halo was coming to PlayStation. Windows Central reproduced the post.

The White House Rapid Response account then shared an image depicting Trump as Halo’s Master Chief with the caption “Power to the Players.” GameStop also followed up with Trump-and-Halo imagery. The sequence was social-media humor and political branding: Halo’s platform announcement came first, GameStop made the joke, and the White House account amplified it. Polygon reported on the White House image.
What actually changed: Halo is coming to PlayStation
The concrete news behind the meme is that Halo: Campaign Evolved is not limited to Xbox and PC. Xbox Wire confirmed a global launch date of July 28, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. Xbox Wire specifies July 29 for Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets. The game supports cross-play and cross-progression across its listed platforms. Xbox Wire’s release-date announcement has the platform and regional-date details.

That is a notable platform choice for a Halo remake, but it does not amount to Microsoft ending console competition. The White House did not cause the release, and its meme was not a Halo Studios announcement.
What the remake includes
Halo Studios describes Campaign Evolved as a ground-up remake of the original campaign, with rebuilt visuals and controls. Its announced content includes the original 10 missions plus a new three-mission story arc called Operation: METEORITE. Players can play solo or join online co-op for up to four players. These are features of this game, not evidence of a broader change in the console market.

The official announcement also describes a Collector’s Edition containing a 12-inch Master Chief statue, an LED Cortana chip, a SteelBook, three concept-art prints, a reimagined physical manual, and a game disc for Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5. That announcement does not establish a separate standard physical-disc edition or current retailer stock.

The announced options are Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. Xbox Wire says cross-play and cross-progression are supported, so players on the listed platforms can play together and carry progression across platforms. The official listing also identifies Game Pass availability on Xbox and PC. A platform version, subscription access, and a physical edition are different purchase or access routes; check the relevant storefront for current availability and pricing.
