Is the Prince of Persia remake coming out in 2026?
No. Ubisoft said on January 30, 2026, that it had stopped development on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The company’s earlier target for a 2026 launch was superseded by that decision, so the game will not arrive by early 2026 under the announced project. Ubisoft’s official statement is signed by The Prince of Persia Team.

Why did Ubisoft stop development?
The Prince of Persia Team said the project had not reached the quality level it wanted to deliver and that continuing would require more time and investment than Ubisoft could responsibly commit. The statement acknowledged the remake’s potential but did not provide a new schedule or describe plans to restart it.
Ubisoft’s corporate presentation on January 21, 2026, had already listed the remake among six discontinued games in a portfolio reset. The company said it had reviewed its content pipeline over December and January and was refocusing its portfolio. The presentation preceded the team’s January 30 statement.

How did the release plan change?

What was the remake supposed to include?
Before cancellation, Ubisoft described plans to preserve recognizable elements of the 2003 game while modernizing combat, storytelling, controls, and level design. The planned elements included wall running, the Dagger of Time and its powers, the game’s tone, accessibility options, and a more developed role for Farah. These were intentions for the remake, not features in a released game.
In the 2024 announcement, Game Director Michael McIntyre described a larger, more connected castle, with distant landmarks helping players feel oriented. That description referred to the planned experience and should not be read as confirmation that the remake is available.

Does the cancellation mean Prince of Persia is over?
No. The Prince of Persia Team said the decision did not mean Ubisoft was stepping away from the wider franchise. Its statement did not announce a replacement for The Sands of Time Remake or give details of another project.
