Start by identifying what has failed. If every Ubisoft game stopped working at once, check Ubisoft’s service status before changing anything. If Ubisoft Connect will not open, restart its background processes and clear its cache. If only one game fails, verify that game’s files before reinstalling it.
This guide covers Ubisoft Connect on Windows PC, including games purchased through Ubisoft, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Use the least destructive fix first, and do not delete game saves or installation folders while troubleshooting the launcher.
- Every game fails: Check Ubisoft services, your account, network, or the launcher.
- One game fails: Verify that game’s files and check overlays, drivers, and anti-cheat.
- Connect will not open: End stuck processes, clear its cache, then repair or reinstall the launcher.
- The game came from Steam or Epic: Check the store account link and launch it through the storefront where you purchased it.
1. Check whether Ubisoft is having a service or account outage
Before reinstalling anything, check Ubisoft’s official support channels and service-status information. If authentication, libraries, updates, or several Ubisoft games are unavailable for many players, the problem may be server-side.

Ubisoft does not guarantee that its services will be available at all times, in every location, or on every device. Some games and features may also require internet access or a permanent online connection. See Ubisoft’s terms of use for those limitations.

Record the approximate time, your region, the platform, the game, and the exact error message. If the outage is confirmed, waiting for service restoration is more useful than clearing caches or reinstalling a large game.
Useful distinction: a problem affecting one game usually points to game files, anti-cheat, or title-specific settings. A problem affecting every game is more likely to involve Ubisoft Connect, your account, your network, or Ubisoft’s services.
2. Fully restart Ubisoft Connect, the storefront, Windows, and your network
Closing the launcher window may leave Ubisoft processes running in the background. A stuck process can cause update loops, blank windows, login failures, or games that appear to do nothing when launched.
- Close Ubisoft Connect.
- Close Steam, Epic Games Launcher, or the relevant PC storefront.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- End remaining Ubisoft Connect or Ubisoft Game Launcher processes.
- End the relevant storefront process if it is also stuck.
- Restart Windows.
- If the error is connection-related, restart your modem or router.
- Open Ubisoft Connect first and let it finish updating before launching the game.
For Epic-linked games, Epic’s official troubleshooting guidance also recommends fully exiting Epic, starting Ubisoft Connect as administrator, checking the Ubisoft library, and launching through the appropriate launcher.
This is a low-risk fix: it does not remove installed games, saves, or launcher settings. If Ubisoft Connect immediately reopens or refuses to close, restart Windows rather than repeatedly clicking the shortcut.
3. Update or repair Ubisoft Connect
Download the current installer only from Ubisoft’s official Ubisoft Connect page. Run it over the existing installation first; this can repair or update the client without requiring you to reinstall every game.
- Download the official installer.
- Run it over the current installation.
- Restart Windows.
- Sign in again if prompted.
- Test one game before changing anything else.
If the installer fails, check that another Ubisoft process is not still running, that you have enough disk space, and that antivirus software has not quarantined the installer or launcher. Do not download replacement DLLs, cracked launchers, registry cleaners, or installers from third-party sites.

A launcher reinstall may remove local configuration and require another sign-in. It should not automatically require deleting game folders, but do not promise that every local setting will survive. Back up important saves and configuration files before a full uninstall.
4. Clear the Ubisoft Connect cache
Corrupted temporary data can cause a blank window, a login loop, “Checking for updates” to remain indefinitely, or a generic “unrecoverable error.” Clearing the cache is a common troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed cure.
- Exit Ubisoft Connect completely.
- Open Task Manager and confirm that Ubisoft processes have ended.
- Follow Ubisoft’s official cache-clearing instructions.
- Relaunch Connect and allow it time to rebuild its temporary files.
If the official instructions do not match your installed client, use a reversible fallback rather than deleting files permanently:
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter
%localappdata%and press Enter. - Find the
Ubisoft Game Launcherfolder. - Rename it to
Ubisoft Game Launcher.old. - Start Ubisoft Connect again.
Renaming the folder is a community-reported workaround, not an official guarantee. If it solves the problem, you can remove the old folder later.
Do not delete: the game installation folder, save-game folders, cloud-save data, or your Ubisoft account information. Launcher cache, launcher configuration, game files, and saves are separate things. The first launch after a cache reset may take longer while Connect recreates local data.
5. Check the Ubisoft account, storefront link, and permissions
A missing library or failed launch can be caused by signing into the wrong Ubisoft account rather than a broken installation.
- Confirm that you are using the Ubisoft account that owns the game or has the entitlement.
- For Steam or Epic purchases, confirm that the correct storefront account is linked.
- Check whether the game appears in the Ubisoft Connect library after signing in.
- Do not repeatedly unlink and relink accounts; account-linking restrictions can make entitlement recovery more complicated.
For one diagnostic test, right-click the Ubisoft Connect shortcut and choose Run as administrator. If this changes the result, investigate folder permissions, antivirus blocking, or Windows security settings. Administrator mode does not repair an outage, invalid credentials, a broken account link, or corrupted game files, so it is not a universal permanent fix.

If the issue began after a suspicious login, password reset, or possible account takeover, change the password, enable two-factor authentication, and contact Ubisoft account support. Do not treat an account-security problem as a cache problem.

Use file verification when Ubisoft Connect works but one game crashes, refuses to launch, or stops after an update. Verification does not repair Ubisoft’s servers, account authentication, or the launcher itself.
Ubisoft Connect
Open the game in your Ubisoft Connect library, open its menu, and choose the available file-verification or repair option. Labels can vary between client versions.
Steam
In Steam, open the game’s properties and use the installed-files option to verify the integrity of the game files. Steam documents this process in its official troubleshooting guidance.
Epic Games Store
Open the game’s three-dot menu and choose Manage, then Verify, or the equivalent current control. Epic’s Ubisoft launch guidance also covers checking the Ubisoft library and using the correct launcher.

Verification may redownload missing or changed files and can remove manually modified files or mods. It is unlikely to help when the launcher cannot authenticate, the service is down, the game is missing because of the wrong account, or the failure occurs before the game executable is reached.
7. Isolate Windows, security, overlay, network, and anti-cheat conflicts
Use controlled tests rather than disabling every security feature indefinitely.

Firewall and antivirus
Check quarantine and block logs for Ubisoft Connect, the game executable, and the relevant anti-cheat component. If the installation is trusted, add narrow exceptions for the official executables, test briefly, and re-enable protection. Never download replacement executables from unofficial sites.
VPN and proxy
Temporarily disconnect a VPN or proxy and test on your normal home connection. A VPN is not a standard fix: it can introduce authentication, regional, latency, or anti-cheat problems.

Overlays and monitoring tools
Temporarily disable the Ubisoft, Steam, Epic, Discord, and GPU overlays. Also test without recording software, hardware-monitoring tools, RGB utilities, or overclocking and tuning tools. If the game works, re-enable programs one at a time to identify the conflict.
Windows, drivers, and clock settings
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Update your GPU driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel.
- If the failure began immediately after a driver update, use the GPU vendor’s official rollback or clean-reinstall process.
- On a laptop, confirm that the game uses the dedicated GPU.
- Check that Windows date, time, and time zone are correct, with automatic synchronization enabled.
Incorrect clock settings can interfere with secure authentication, but they are only one possible cause of a login failure.
Anti-cheat
For games using BattlEye, follow the title-specific instructions. Ubisoft’s BattlEye FAQ recommends current clients, verified files, and current drivers before escalation.

Use reinstallation only after checking services, restarting processes, resetting the cache, verifying the account, and verifying game files.
- Repair or reinstall the game’s support software or anti-cheat component.
- Reinstall Ubisoft Connect from Ubisoft’s official download page.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the launcher and one game.
- Reinstall the game only if the earlier steps fail.
Ubisoft developer support has included reinstalling support software and, for persistent launch failures, installing the game and Ubisoft Connect on the same drive as Windows among possible troubleshooting steps. This is not a universal requirement, but it can help with permissions or service-registration problems.

Before uninstalling, record or back up:
- Save locations and configuration files
- Mods and custom launch arguments
- Your Ubisoft account email
- The linked Steam or Epic account
- The game’s installation location
- Screenshots of error messages
Cloud saves are not a substitute for a manual backup. A clean reinstall can remove local settings and affect saves or mods, depending on the game.
Storefront-specific launch rules
Games purchased directly from Ubisoft
Sign into the Ubisoft account that owns the game, allow Connect to update completely, and launch from the Ubisoft library. If Connect itself will not open, focus on process, cache, and launcher repair steps first.
Games purchased through Steam
Confirm the correct Steam account is signed in, verify the files in Steam, and launch through Steam after the Ubisoft account link is established. Ubisoft Connect may still be required for authentication or game features.

Fully exit Epic, start Ubisoft Connect as administrator once as a diagnostic test, confirm the title appears in the Ubisoft library, and launch through the appropriate storefront. Follow Epic’s current support steps if the link or entitlement does not synchronize.
Common error messages and the best first move

| Unable to connect or offline mode | Check Ubisoft services, VPN or proxy settings, DNS, firewall blocks, and the Windows clock. |
| Checking for updates forever | End Ubisoft processes, restart Windows, clear the Connect cache, then repair the launcher. |
| Login or verification loop | Check the account, two-factor authentication, browser/session state, clock, and service status. |
| Game missing from the library | Confirm the Ubisoft account and linked Steam or Epic account; do not reinstall the game yet. |
| Unrecoverable error | Reset the cache, test permissions, and isolate security or overlay conflicts. |
| Game crashes after launch | Verify files, disable overlays, update drivers, and check anti-cheat support. |
| Offline—update required | Check authentication, client and game versions, and Ubisoft service availability. |
When none of these fixes works
Contact Ubisoft Support when the issue survives a service check, cache reset, launcher repair, file verification, and controlled conflict tests. Include:
- The exact error text or code
- A screenshot or video
- The game title and edition
- Whether you bought it through Ubisoft, Steam, Epic, or another platform
- Your account region
- Your Windows version
- Your Ubisoft Connect version
- What changed immediately before the problem began
- DxDiag and launcher or game logs if support requests them
Windows users can also run sfc /scannow in an elevated Command Prompt as a final system-integrity check. It scans protected Windows system files; it does not repair Ubisoft outages, account problems, or damaged game files.
The main procedure here targets supported Windows PC installations. Steam Deck, Linux, Proton, Wine, console, and third-party Ubisoft Connect installations add a separate compatibility layer and need platform-specific troubleshooting.
