Those are the design aims described by solo developer Seyfettin Dincturk in an October 2, 2026 interview with Insider Gaming; they are not hands-on findings.
What is Undead Chronicles about?
Dincturk says the game began with a desire to make the kind of horror game he wanted to play: a “horror walking sim” with satisfying gunplay against slow zombies and a protagonist who never cracks a joke. Its premise places an outbreak inside a city already facing political upheaval, making survival as much about the atmosphere and setting as about combat.
The developer describes the intended mood as “creepy, depressive, and miserable.” That bleakness is a deliberate part of the game’s pitch, rather than a promise of a conventional action-horror power fantasy.
Why is it set in 1923 Istanbul?
The story takes place in Istanbul in 1923. Dincturk connects the choice to his visits to family in the city as a student and frames the period as one of political collapse around the end of Allied occupation. The zombie outbreak is added to that historical setting; this is the developer’s account of the premise, not a separate historical analysis.

That combination gives the game a different frame from a familiar modern-day outbreak scenario: the city’s political instability and the undead threat coexist in the story’s Istanbul.
Who is RJ Edwards?
RJ Edwards is presented as a shy, ordinary British banker trying to get out of Istanbul and return home. Dincturk emphasizes that he is neither a soldier nor a conventional action hero, but someone players might recognize as an everyday person.

The choice shapes the intended feel of play. Edwards can fight, but his role is not to dominate the outbreak or turn the city into a shooting gallery.
How is combat meant to keep players vulnerable?
Dincturk says the design lets players fight back without letting them feel powerful. The interview describes shots as considered and weighty, reloads as intense and fumbled, and enemies as relentless. Together, those choices are intended to make each encounter feel risky even when the player has a weapon.

This is a description of the developer’s goals, not a report from playing a finished build. The interview does not establish how those mechanics perform in practice.
How does the story reveal what happened?
The interview identifies radio broadcasts, notes, and letters as environmental clues through which players can piece together events in Istanbul. Rather than relying only on direct exposition, the game is described as letting the player assemble parts of the story while moving through the setting.

Insider Gaming’s interview identifies Dincturk as the solo developer and reports that the project is fully self-funded. Dincturk also says Undead Chronicles was designed as a trilogy from the start, with the first game introducing the world and its protagonist.
