“FiveM leak” is a broad label for unauthorized copies or extraction of server resources—not proof that every script, model, or source file was exposed. Cfx.re has documented distinct incidents affecting Lua bytecode in 2022 and encrypted assets in 2025. For server owners, the practical response is to verify a resource’s provenance, use authorized distribution, and report suspected stolen content rather than install an unverified repost.
What does “FiveM leak” mean?
The term can describe a script, model, or other FiveM server resource copied or shared without the creator’s permission, or material extracted through a security flaw. Those are not all the same event: a leak claim does not establish what files were exposed, whether original source code was obtained, or whether a particular copy is authentic. The incident’s date, affected resource type, and Cfx.re’s account of the method matter.
Two documented Cfx.re incidents illustrate why the distinction matters.
What happened in the documented incidents?
| Incident | What Cfx.re said was affected | What Cfx.re said changed or followed |
|---|---|---|
| July 2022 Lua bytecode incident | Cfx.re said a proof of concept modified server binaries and intercepted calls to the Lua interpreter, allowing Lua bytecode to be dumped after it was loaded in memory. The bytecode could be decompiled into runnable, altered, relatively unreadable output; it was not the original source code. Cfx.re said 3D models were not affected in this incident. | Cfx.re described separating client-side and server-side encryption keys. It also cautioned that encryption on an open PC system cannot be made uncrackable. Read Cfx.re’s July 2022 community update. |
| August–October 2025 Asset Escrow issue | Cfx.re’s August 8, 2025 announcement said a security issue had allowed bad actors to extract encrypted assets from the game client and bypass safeguards intended to prevent unauthorized server use. In its October 16 follow-up, Cfx.re said an added obfuscation layer covered 3D model files, but not scripts as of that day’s clarification. | Cfx.re said the latest exploit method it had detected should no longer work on GTAV Legacy assets and instructed creators to re-encrypt previously uploaded assets. It announced two-week suspensions for confirmed unauthorized use and permanent termination for repeat cases. In October it reported suspending hundreds of accounts and servers associated with stolen assets and permanently banning confirmed violators after outreach and review. These are dated platform statements, not a forecast of every future case. Read Cfx.re’s Asset Security Update. |
The two incidents should not be conflated: the 2022 account concerned Lua bytecode dumped from memory, while the 2025 issue concerned encrypted assets extracted from the client. Cfx.re’s October 2025 implementation details describe that point in time; they should not be taken as a complete statement of protections currently in effect.

What does Asset Escrow protect—and what does it not guarantee?
Cfx.re describes Asset Escrow as a way to protect code from direct access or modification and to support entitlement checks and enforcement. Its developer FAQ explains how creators prepare escrowed resources and how those resources are delivered. A server without the required entitlement cannot start an escrowed resource. See the FiveM Asset Escrow documentation for supported file types and setup details.
Escrow raises the difficulty of unauthorized access; it is not an absolute promise that a resource can never be copied or exposed. Cfx.re has explicitly warned that no encryption method is completely impenetrable. The system’s purpose is both protective and administrative: make unauthorized access harder while enabling entitlement controls and responses to misuse.

Are leaked FiveM scripts safe to use?
An unverified archive or repost is not safe to treat as legitimate merely because its uploader calls it a “leak,” says it is harmless, or claims it works. You may not know whether the creator authorized the copy, whether it has been altered, or what the files do. The leak incidents described by Cfx.re do not establish that every leaked resource contains malware; they do establish that unauthorized extraction and use are real concerns.
FiveM’s sandbox is intended to support stability and prevent malicious code execution. Cfx.re warns that filesystem permissions can be dangerous if misused and recommends enabling them only for resources an operator trusts completely. That is a general security warning, not evidence that any particular leak contains malicious code. Consult the sandbox documentation and avoid granting broad permissions to resources whose origin you cannot verify.

How should server owners obtain and verify resources?
- Identify the creator and release. Find the creator’s own release information and confirm that the resource is offered with permission. A repost, archive, or “leak” label does not prove authorization.
- Use the permitted sales and delivery route for paid resources. Cfx.re’s release rules require paid releases to be sold through Tebex, and creators must own the content they release. The Asset Escrow FAQ describes delivery of FiveM assets through Tebex. Review the Cfx.re server release rules and buy FiveM assets from authorized creators.
- Check access requirements before installation. For escrowed resources, confirm the required entitlement is associated with your server; a server without the entitlement cannot start the resource. Follow the creator’s authorized installation instructions rather than substituting files from an unofficial copy.
- Limit permissions to what you trust. Review resource permissions and enable filesystem access only when the resource is fully trusted and requires it, following Cfx.re’s sandbox guidance.
How do you report suspected stolen FiveM assets?
If you suspect a server is using stolen assets, use the Server Report form linked from Cfx.re’s security announcement. Include clear identifying information and explain why you believe the asset is unauthorized; do not circulate the files further as proof.
Creators pursuing copyright or trademark claims should use Cfx.re’s notice process for intellectual-property claims. Cfx.re says it responds to notices that meet DMCA requirements. A suspected stolen asset report and a formal copyright notice are different routes, so choose the one that fits the issue.
