Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Whether The Last of Us runs on RPCS3 depends on the exact release you own, not the title alone. RPCS3 records compatibility by game ID and media type, so there is no blanket yes or no for every copy. This guide explains how to check your specific release, what the current records do and do not establish, how Factions online play differs from the single-player game, and where to get the files and documentation you need.
Why the game ID decides the answer
RPCS3 does not keep one compatibility status for “The Last of Us.” It keeps entries keyed to a game ID and to the media type the game came on. Two copies with the same name can therefore sit on different lines of the list. The project’s own compatibility documentation describes this per-ID, per-media approach, and its FAQ asks users to consult the compatibility list before reporting a problem.

| Game ID and region | The same title can have separate entries by ID. A regional ID is not a global recommendation. | The printed ID on your disc or case, checked against the compatibility list |
| Media type | Disc and digital releases are tracked separately, so a result for one does not automatically cover the other. | RPCS3 Game Compatibility documentation |
| Single-player vs. Factions online | Offline progress and online multiplayer are separate questions with separate records. | RPCN Compatibility List |
| Date of the entry | Entries are updated as reports arrive, so a result you read last month may have changed. | The live entry on the compatibility list at the time you check |
How to check your exact release
- Note your game ID. Disc copies show it on the label or the case spine, in the format of a four-letter prefix followed by five digits (for example, BLUS followed by numbers, the prefix used for North American PS3 retail releases). For digital copies, note the ID shown with the game in your library.
- Open the RPCS3 Compatibility List and locate the The Last of Us entry that matches your ID and media type. Ignore entries for other IDs, even when the title is the same.
- Read the status and any notes attached to that entry. Confirm that the update or version information matches the copy you are running.
- Read the RPCS3 Game Compatibility documentation if the entry or its notes are unclear about how reports are handled.
- If you intend to play online, check the RPCN list separately (covered below) before assuming any online feature works.
The list changes frequently. The status described in this guide reflects the records available when it was prepared, so treat the live entry for your exact ID as the authority.
What the current records show
The compatibility list includes an update entry for BLUS31410, version 01.02. That is one regional record in the database. It is not evidence of the latest update for every region, and it is not a current universal gameplay rating for The Last of Us. Do not read it as a verdict on your copy unless your game ID matches that entry exactly.

- When starting up the system for the first time, hold the power button until a "screen display" message shows up on screen. Select the desired output, and the system will startup normally.

Taken together, the available records do not establish a single, current “Playable” status covering all editions of The Last of Us. Expect the single-player result to depend on your ID and media, and expect online results to be tracked separately.
Updating PlayStation 3 system software safely
RPCS3 relies on official PlayStation 3 system software. Get it only from Sony’s support page, the PlayStation 3 system software support page. Sony warns that update data obtained from another source or by another method can prevent the system from operating or installing the update properly. Files from unofficial mirrors carry that risk and also create uncertainty about what you have installed.

- 320GB HDD for storing games, music, videos, and photos
- Streams thousands of movies and TV shows instantly from Netflix
- Built-in Blu-ray player with 3D capabilities. HDMI output for 1080p resolution.
- Download the current PS3 system software from Sony’s page for your region.
- Install the firmware into RPCS3 using its firmware installation option, following the steps in the current Quickstart guide linked from the project’s FAQ.
- Record the firmware version you installed. When you report a problem, that version is part of the information the project needs.
Factions online play
Factions online play is a different question from the single-player game. The RPCN compatibility listing records The Last of Us version 1.11 and marks some compatibility fields as partial. It describes a custom-server route for online functionality in Factions, with custom matches and an access or whitelist requirement set out in that listing.
- This is a community custom-server path, not official PlayStation Network service. Do not promise ordinary PSN multiplayer.
- Access depends on the server operator’s requirements. Read the listing’s access terms before you attempt to connect.
- Because online services change, check the RPCN Compatibility List on the day you plan to play.
Settings and hardware: what is not established
This guide does not give a verified settings recipe, a per-version patch list, or minimum hardware figures for The Last of Us on RPCS3. Older benchmarks and settings from earlier RPCS3 builds may not match current behavior, and general emulator performance numbers should not be applied to this game. Use the live compatibility entry and the project’s current documentation as the reference for any performance advice.

Reporting a problem usefully
The RPCS3 FAQ uses “The Last of Us doesn’t work” as an example of a report that gives developers too little to act on. A better report states the game ID, the media type, the RPCS3 build, the firmware version, the exact symptom, and the log file RPCS3 writes. Check the compatibility entry first, since your issue may already be recorded there.
