Until Dawn on PS5 is a rebuilt presentation of the same branching horror story, not a new chapter or a rewrite of the night on Blackwood Mountain. Its Unreal Engine 5 remake updates visuals, camera work, audio, the prologue, collectibles and accessibility options. Those changes make it a more substantial refresh than a simple resolution upgrade, but the available evidence does not establish how well it performs in motion or whether it is worth a particular price.
Is Until Dawn on PS5 a remake or a remaster?
It is a rebuilt edition of the 2015 game, developed by Ballistic Moon using Unreal Engine 5 and released for PS5 and PC on October 4, 2024. The core premise remains familiar: a group of friends returns to Blackwood Mountain, and player decisions shape who survives. Creative Director Neil McEwan said the team did not intend to alter the events of that night, while describing a cinematic update. PlayStation’s announcement gives the studio’s account of the changes.

The PS5 Store lists it as a one-player horror game with DualSense vibration and trigger-effect support. It is also available as a PS5 disc Standard Edition, according to Sony Direct.
What changes in the PS5 edition?
Visuals and camera
PlayStation describes updated character models, environments, interactive props, visual effects and animation, alongside relighting and ray-tracing features. Camera presentation now combines fixed cinematic views with a closer third-person perspective. These are the announced design changes; they do not by themselves establish image quality, frame-rate stability or how the camera feels during play.

Prologue, exploration and totems
The prologue was reworked for pacing and context. The original totems have been relocated, and the remake adds Hunger totems, interactions and small areas. These additions adjust how the story and exploration are presented without changing the intended events of the night.
Audio
The edition features a new score by Mark Korven and an overhauled soundscape. The Store listing describes the audio as reauthored. The announcement and US PlayStation Store listing describe these changes.

What accessibility and control options are available?
The US PlayStation Store listing identifies 17 accessibility features. Among them are advanced controller remapping, adjustable stick inversion, adjustable difficulty and assists, simplified Quick Time Events (QTEs), and control and tutorial reminders. Options let players avoid button holds, rapid presses, simultaneous presses and motion controls; the game can also be played without vibration or adaptive trigger effects.
The screen reader can help players start the game and adjust settings, but PlayStation cautions that it may not communicate additional text and visual information during gameplay. The options address specific input and setup barriers, but do not remove every accessibility barrier.

Is the PS5 version worth choosing?
The case for this edition is clearest if you want the original story with a thoroughly refreshed audiovisual presentation, a different camera approach and updated accessibility controls. The changes are broader than a basic technical upgrade, while the underlying story is still the same one.
There is not enough evidence here to make a hands-on judgment about acting, scares, pacing, controls, performance, bugs or replay value, or to establish a measured comparison with the PS4 version. The US Store showed $59.99 when accessed on October 8, 2026; that is a dated regional price snapshot, not a current or universal recommendation. The same Store page showed 4.5 out of 5 from 14,534 ratings, based on verified-owner reviews evaluated by moderators. That is a volatile user-rating snapshot, not a critic score or a substitute for a technical review. Check the listing for your region and date before buying.
