Status checked August 18, 2026: Epic Games is not experiencing a complete outage. Epic’s official status page lists login, game services, Epic Online Services and most Epic Games Store functions as operational, but download and installation services are marked Degraded Performance. An unresolved incident also affects some Windows 10 users who are installing or updating games.
That means a failed download or update may be an Epic-side problem, while a launcher that will not open, shows a blank window or loops at login is more likely to involve local cache, permissions, security software, networking or the installation itself. Check the official status page before deleting files or reinstalling.
Reports posted on June 30 described Epic Online Services and launcher failures for some players, but the accessible official history does not verify a platform-wide outage on that date. Treat June 30 as historical context, not proof that Epic is down now.
Is Epic Games Launcher down right now?
Check Epic’s official status page first. It reports each major component separately, so an operational website or login service does not mean every launcher function is healthy.

If the page shows a partial outage, degraded performance or scheduled maintenance for the feature you need, waiting for an incident update is safer than reinstalling the launcher. Epic’s troubleshooting guidance also directs users to check server status when the launcher crashes, will not download or cannot launch games.
What happened on June 30?
A June 30 user report described “Epic Online Services unavailable” errors affecting launching, downloading, installing and updating games. That is evidence that some players encountered problems, not confirmation that the entire Epic platform was offline. The available official status history does not provide a searchable June 30 incident that would establish a complete outage.
The current, verified issue is later: Epic’s August 17 status incident concerns installation or update errors for some Windows 10 users. Do not use the June 30 date to infer today’s condition.

Fix Epic Games Launcher in the safest order
1. Check the official status page
Open status.epicgames.com and look for Major Outage, Partial Outage, Degraded Performance, an incident naming login, downloads, installation or Epic Online Services, and scheduled maintenance. If the affected component is listed, local changes cannot repair Epic’s servers.

2. Establish whether the problem is local
- Open the Epic Games Store website in a browser.
- Try another device on the same network.
- Temporarily test a phone hotspot or other connection.
- Restart the computer and router.
- Temporarily disconnect a VPN or proxy.
- Confirm the computer’s date, time and time zone are correct.
If several devices and networks fail at once, an Epic-side or broader connectivity problem is more plausible. If only one PC fails, focus on its cache, permissions, security software or installation.
3. Exit every Epic process
On Windows, close the launcher, open the system-tray overflow with the upward arrow, right-click the Epic Games icon and choose Exit. Reopen it afterward. Closing the window alone can leave the process running and preserve the faulty state.
4. Clear the launcher cache
Epic’s cache instructions use these locations. They remove launcher web-cache files, not installed games.
Windows
- Exit Epic from the system tray.
- Press Windows + R and enter
%localappdata%. - Open
EpicGamesLauncher, thenSaved. - Delete
webcache,webcache_4147andwebcache_4430if present. - Launch Epic Games Launcher again.
macOS
- Exit the launcher.
- In Finder choose Go → Go to Folder….
- Enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Move the
webcachefolder to the Trash, empty it, and relaunch Epic.
Cache deletion can repair display errors and corrupted local launcher state. It cannot fix an Epic outage, an invalid account, a blocked connection, a full drive or a game’s own server.

5. Apply an available launcher update
Open the profile icon and Settings. If Epic offers Restart and Update or another update control, use it. The Store’s official PC and Mac installer page says the application updates automatically on launch.
If the launcher cannot open far enough to update, download a fresh installer only from that official page. Do not use third-party “old version” sites or replace launcher binaries with unofficial files.
6. Test administrator permissions
On Windows, right-click the Epic Games Launcher shortcut and choose Run as administrator. This can expose a permissions problem affecting downloads or updates, but it is not required for normal use and is not a universal outage fix.

Antivirus or endpoint protection, Windows Firewall rules, VPNs, proxies, overlays, hardware-monitoring utilities, other launchers and managed school or workplace networks can interfere with Epic. Check quarantine and firewall logs first and allow official Epic components according to your security vendor’s instructions. If you briefly disable protection for testing, do so only if you understand the risk and re-enable it immediately. Epic also recommends testing without unnecessary background applications.

8. Confirm the launcher’s platform requirements
Epic’s current installer page lists these minimum launcher requirements:

These are launcher requirements, not the requirements for individual games. They also do not rule out the active Epic-side installation/update problem affecting some Windows 10 users.
9. Update graphics drivers only when symptoms fit
Driver updates are reasonable when the launcher crashes, renders incorrectly, or began failing after an operating-system or driver change. They are unlikely to repair a confirmed login outage or a store-wide installation incident.
10. Reinstall only after preserving your library
Reinstallation is a last resort. Before using the official installer, confirm that the status page is clear, identify every game-library folder and custom install location, ensure you can access your account and two-factor authentication, and avoid deleting game data. Reinstalling can require setup again and may make titles appear uninstalled even when their files remain on disk.

When downloads or updates fail
A launcher that opens successfully can still be unable to install a game because Epic’s download service is degraded. The August 17 incident specifically names some Windows 10 users; it does not mean every Windows 10 PC or every launcher function is broken. If the status page lists degraded installation performance, wait for Epic’s update rather than deleting local game folders.
Conversely, if status is operational and only one title fails, investigate that game’s files, available disk space, permissions and game-specific servers. The launcher, Epic Online Services and an individual game can fail independently.
When to contact Epic Support
Contact Epic Support when the status page is operational but cache clearing and the basic checks do not help, the launcher repeatedly rolls back updates, installed games vanish from the library, account authentication or 2FA is involved, or a specific error code persists. Include:

- Screenshots.
- Launcher logs if Support requests them.
