In a November 8, 2021 funding release, Upland said it had raised $18 million in a Series A at a $300 million valuation. The announcement named Animoca Brands as lead investor. These are the terms Upland reported at the time; the $300 million figure is not a current valuation or a revenue figure.

The release also named FinLab EOS VC Fund, managed by C3 Management, as a previous investor, and identified new participants including OneTeam Partners, Block.one, Alumni Ventures Blockchain Fund, Global Founders Capital, Com2uS, Crit Ventures, Korea Investment Partners, Michael Ronen, Mike Vorhaus and Michael Terpin. The announcement said “and others,” so this named list may not be exhaustive. Upland’s November 8, 2021 release provides the round details.
What Upland is
Upland presented itself as a blockchain-based virtual world mapped to real places. Its founders’ vision was for participants to own and trade virtual properties, build on them, pursue micro-entrepreneurship and form communities based on locations. In their November 2, 2021 founders’ note, they wrote: “At the heart of this metaverse, we wanted every participant to have the ability to own and trade virtual properties while also being able to build, become micro-entrepreneurs, and create virtual location-based communities.”

In this context, “NFT-based virtual real estate” refers to digital property represented and traded within a game’s ecosystem using blockchain and non-fungible-token technology. It does not mean that buying a game asset gives the buyer ownership of the corresponding real-world address, land or building. The announcement describes Upland’s intended digital experience, not a transfer of physical real-estate title.

Upland’s founders said the raise would help the company scale its team faster, build more brand partnerships and expand the metaverse, including into international locations. Those were stated plans when the funding was announced; the announcement does not establish that each plan was later completed.
What is known about Upland now
Upland’s 2026 media kit describes the company’s current positioning as using a dedicated appchain and presents properties and structures as parts of its platform. That is company-produced material, so its technical and product descriptions should be understood as Upland’s own claims. The materials available here do not establish current user numbers, revenue, trading volume or token metrics, and historical operating figures should not be treated as current.
