usflib.dll is most strongly associated with Ableton Live installations on Windows. If usflib.dll is missing, not found, or could not be loaded, identify the affected program before changing Windows files.
Check these details:
- Which program shows the error? Note whether it is Ableton Live, an Ableton-bundled component, or another application.
- When does it appear? Record whether the error occurs during installation, immediately after an update, or when launching Live.
- What is the exact message? “The specified module could not be found” can mean that another dependency is missing.
- Which Windows architecture is installed? Open Settings > System > About and check System type.
- Does the file exist in the application folder? For Ableton Live, inspect a path similar to:
C:ProgramDataAbletonLive [version]Program
Do not assume that a file with the right name is genuine. The publisher, internal description, version, bitness, and original developer of usflib.dll are not reliably established by public metadata.

Fix 1: Reinstall Ableton Live from its official installer
This is the safest and most likely solution. usflib.dll appears to be an application file supplied by the program that needs it, not a Windows component.
1. Remove the failed installation
If Live is listed in Windows:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Ableton Live.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
If the installation is incomplete and cannot be removed normally, leave the damaged folder in place temporarily rather than deleting unrelated Ableton content. The goal is to avoid destroying projects, samples, or user files.

2. Download the matching Live package
Sign in to your Ableton account and open Licenses & Packs. Download the exact Live edition and release associated with your license.
For Windows, newer Live packages are ZIP archives containing an installer executable. Live 10 uses Setup.msi. If you are using an older release, use Ableton’s official download archive and confirm that the release is supported by your version of Windows.
Do not obtain usflib.dll separately from a DLL-index or file-download page. The correct file must come from the complete application installer.
3. Extract the archive completely
- Open File Explorer and go to your Downloads folder.
- Right-click the Ableton ZIP file.
- Select Extract All.
- Choose a simple local folder, such as a folder on the Desktop.
- Open the extracted folder.
- Run the included Ableton installer.
Do not open or extract embedded .cab files separately. Doing so can leave the installation incomplete and cause the same loader error.

If Windows asks for administrator permission, select Yes. After installation, launch Live from the Start menu.
What success looks like
Live should open without the usflib.dll message, and the file should be present inside the Live installation directory rather than in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.

If the error returns immediately, continue with the checks below instead of copying a replacement DLL.

Security software can quarantine or block an unfamiliar application file. This is a possible case-specific cause, not proof that usflib.dll is generally unsafe.
Windows Security steps
- Open Settings.
- Select Privacy & security > Windows Security.
- Open Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
usflib.dll, Ableton, or the installer. - If the file came from the verified Ableton installer, follow your security product’s restore or allow procedure.
- Reinstall Live from the original Ableton package.
Do not restore a file simply because its name matches. Check that the installer was downloaded from your Ableton account and that the file is located in the Ableton program directory.
If quarantine happens again, leave the file blocked and contact Ableton support or your security vendor with the detection name. Do not disable antivirus protection permanently.
Fix 3: Confirm the installer, architecture, and location
A 32-bit or 64-bit mismatch can produce a loader error, as can an incomplete installation or an unsupported legacy release.

- Use the Live installer that matches your licensed release and supported Windows architecture.
- Confirm that the installer completed without errors.
- Check that the program files are under
C:ProgramDataAbletonor the installation directory you selected. - Do not place copies in both
System32andSysWOW64.
A file in a system folder may be ignored because Windows loads application DLLs from the executable’s directory and its dependency paths. Copying a DLL into a system folder can also create architecture conflicts, including error 0xc000007b.
For a legacy Live version, test the current supported release if your license permits it. Older Live versions may not run correctly on current Windows versions.

Fix 4: Repair Windows updates, Windows Installer, and Visual C++ prerequisites
If the error appears while the Ableton installer starts, unpacks, or updates, the installer environment may be the problem.
Check Windows Update
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows and run the Ableton installer again.
Check the Windows Installer service
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.mscand press Enter. - Find Windows Installer.
- Double-click it.
- If Startup type is Disabled, change it to Manual.
- If the service is stopped, select Start.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Retry the Ableton installation.
Repair Visual C++ prerequisites
Microsoft runtime files include names such as VCRUNTIME140.dll and MSVCP140.dll. usflib.dll is not one of those Microsoft runtime files, so installing Visual C++ does not replace it. It can, however, repair a dependency needed by Live or its installer.

Open Microsoft’s official latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page and install the package matching the affected application. VC_redist.x64.exe is for 64-bit applications, while VC_redist.x86.exe is for 32-bit applications. Restart Windows and try the Ableton installer again.
If the installer reports 0x80070666, repair or reinstall the existing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable instead of copying DLL files.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components when other programs also fail
Use Windows repair commands when multiple applications show missing-system-file errors, Windows Update is damaged, or system components appear corrupted. These commands generally will not recreate an Ableton-owned DLL.
Run DISM first
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for the operation to finish.
- Restart Windows if requested.
Run System File Checker
Open an elevated Command Prompt again and enter:
sfc /scannow
Wait until verification reaches 100 percent, then restart Windows. Microsoft provides the supported System File Checker and DISM instructions.

Fix 6: Update related audio and device drivers
Drivers are not the primary explanation for usflib.dll, but outdated audio-interface or chipset drivers can prevent Ableton Live from starting correctly after the DLL issue is repaired.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click your audio interface or sound device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Repeat for relevant chipset or USB devices.
- Restart Windows and test Live.
For an audio interface, also check the manufacturer’s official support page for a driver designed for your Windows architecture. Do not install a driver intended for a different device.
Finding the correct driver among many similarly named devices can take time; Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while installation of driver updates through its full version is optional. A driver update will not replace usflib.dll, and Ableton’s official installer remains the correct repair for the missing application file.
Why regsvr32 usually does not fix this error
Do not run:
regsvr32 usflib.dll
Ordinary application DLLs are loaded by the program that uses them. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that support COM or ActiveX self-registration, usually by exporting DllRegisterServer. There is no evidence that usflib.dll is such a library.
Microsoft explains the DLLRegisterServer and Regsvr32 error context. A registration error does not repair a missing dependency, damaged installation, wrong architecture, or quarantined file.
Why downloading usflib.dll separately is unsafe
Avoid random DLL download sites and replacement files from forums. A downloaded file may have the wrong architecture, be damaged, be modified, or belong to a different application. It may also leave the original installation incomplete, so the same error returns when Live loads another dependency.

The safe sources are:
- The official Ableton installer downloaded from your Ableton account
- An official Ableton archive for a licensed older release
- A trusted backup of the exact application installation
Restore a standalone copy only when it came from the same official installer or a trusted backup, and place it in the affected application’s own directory. Never copy it into System32 or SysWOW64.

If every clean reinstall fails, try the installation from an administrator account and confirm that Windows can write to C:ProgramDataAbleton. System Restore is a fallback only when the issue began after a known system change and no clean installer is available.

Is usflib.dll a Windows system file?
No evidence supports that conclusion. It should not normally be installed in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64.
Which program uses usflib.dll?
