Her kit pairs two movement abilities—Refract and Light Speed—with Saturate, which hinders opponents, and Convergent Paths, an ultimate that sends an expanding beam across an area. Riot has changed parts of the launch kit: Saturate now requires an equip, and the ultimate was retuned in Patch 11.08.
Who is Waylay, Agent 28?
Riot introduced Waylay in VALORANT Patch 10.04, published March 4, 2025, and identified her as a Duelist from Thailand. Riot said the staggered regional rollout would begin at 9:00 AM PT on March 5, 2025. Riot’s Patch 10.04 notes describe her original kit. The abilities below distinguish those launch descriptions from the later changes in Riot’s patch notes.
What are Waylay’s abilities?
Refract
Waylay instantly creates a beacon on the floor. She can reactivate the ability to return to it as a mote of light, becoming invulnerable while travelling. Refract is her return-movement tool; the launch description does not specify a travel duration or distance.
Light Speed
Waylay equips a burst of speed, then fires to dash forward twice. Using alt-fire instead produces one dash. Only the first dash can send her upward.

Saturate
Waylay throws a cluster of light that bursts on contact with the ground and hinders nearby players. Riot’s launch description says Hinder slows movement and weapon handling; its listed effects are reduced fire rate, recoil recovery, equip time, reload speed, movement speed, and jump speed.
At launch, Saturate was an instant cast. Patch 12.06 changed it to an equip action, so the launch-era instant-cast description is no longer current in the latest relevant update located. Riot said the change was intended to add risk and encourage coordination: the instant cast had let Waylay apply Hinder safely while airborne or reactively on contact. Riot’s Patch 12.06 notes explain the adjustment. Earlier, Patch 11.08 reduced Saturate’s Hindered duration from 4 seconds to 3 seconds. Riot’s Patch 11.08 notes record that tuning.

Convergent Paths (ultimate)
In the launch description, Waylay creates an afterimage that projects a beam. After a delay, she gains a speed boost as the beam expands, hindering players in its area. Patch 11.08 substantially changed how the ultimate is described and tuned: Riot removed the afterimage and casting knockback, added brief restrictions on aim rotation and movement speed while casting, and adjusted its windup, width, Hindered duration, and speed buff.
| Convergent Paths value | Launch description | Patch 11.08 change |
|---|---|---|
| Initial windup | 2 seconds | Reduced to 1 second |
| Beam width | 18 m | Reduced to 13.5 m |
| Hindered duration | 7 seconds | Reduced to 6 seconds |
| Speed buff | 15% | Reduced to 10% |
| Cast behavior | Afterimage projected the beam; casting knockback was present | Afterimage and casting knockback removed; brief aim-rotation and movement-speed restrictions added while casting |

How does Waylay’s kit fit together?
The clearest way to understand the kit is by what it does: Refract and Light Speed move Waylay; Saturate and Convergent Paths impose Hinder on opponents. The abilities therefore combine self-movement with area effects, but their use involves different commitments: Refract leaves a beacon to return to, Light Speed offers one or two dashes, and Saturate requires an equip under the latest relevant update located. Riot’s descriptions establish these mechanics, not a best map, competitive tier, pick rate, rank-specific strength, or proven team composition.
