VALORANT Error Code 1 is labeled a connection error by Riot Games, which recommends restarting both VALORANT and the Riot Client. Riot also warns that its error-code list is out of date, so the code alone does not confirm whether a particular problem is local or on Riot’s side. If restarting does not help, check Riot’s live notices before trying more involved fixes.
What does VALORANT Error Code 1 mean?
Riot’s Error Codes and Solutions in VALORANT lists Code 1 as “Connection Error” and says to restart VALORANT and the Riot Client. However, the same page carries the warning “THIS LIST IS CURRENTLY OUT OF DATE” and says a recent issue is causing VALORANT errors to display incorrectly. Treat the label as Riot’s published guidance, not a definitive diagnosis of every Code 1 message.
A Code 1 message by itself does not establish that your internet connection, Riot’s servers, Vanguard, firewall, or game files caused the problem. Check current service information before assuming the fault is on your device.
How to troubleshoot Error Code 1
- Restart VALORANT and the Riot Client. Close the game and client, then reopen the Riot Client and launch VALORANT. This is Riot’s listed first step for Code 1.
- Check whether Riot has reported a service issue. Review the Riot Games Service Status page and Riot Support notices. You can also check the VALORANT Discord, which Riot points players to for emerging issues. Notices can be time-sensitive and region-specific, so rely on current updates rather than an old outage post.
- If no notice explains the error, use Riot’s network guidance. Riot’s VALORANT Support catalog lists a Network Connection Troubleshooting guide. Follow Riot’s instructions there rather than guessing at network changes.
- Contact Player Support if it continues. Submit a ticket through VALORANT Support if the error persists after the restart and you cannot find a relevant service notice. Riot’s general error guidance also directs players to Support when an error remains unresolved: Error – General.
What not to do first
Riot’s Code 1 instructions do not call for deleting Vanguard services, changing registry settings, disabling security protections, or reinstalling VALORANT. Avoid starting with these disruptive steps: the error code does not prove that any of them is needed. Nor is there an established guarantee that changing DNS, buying hardware, or waiting a fixed amount of time will resolve this specific error.
