Yes: Valve says every game rated Verified on Steam Deck is guaranteed to be Verified on Steam Machine. The guarantee runs only in that direction; a Steam Machine Verified rating does not guarantee the game is Steam Deck Verified. Valve’s stated Steam Machine Verified target is 30 frames per second at 1080p, not a promise of 4K performance.
What Valve confirmed about Steam Deck and Steam Machine ratings
Valve announced on June 4, 2026, that it was expanding its Verified program to Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Its compatibility policy makes the key relationship explicit: a game Verified on Steam Deck is guaranteed to be Verified on Steam Machine. Valve’s compatibility documentation treats Deck, Machine, and other SteamOS devices as separate rating targets.
The guarantee is not reciprocal. A Steam Machine Verified rating does not, by itself, establish that the game will be Verified on Steam Deck. The devices have different hardware, so a game’s rating is specific to the device being assessed.
What Steam Machine Verified means for performance
Valve’s 2026 Steamworks GDC presentation lists a target of 30 FPS at 1080p for Steam Machine Verified. Valve’s support guide also says 1080p is the system’s default game resolution and the resolution used for Machine Verified testing. The GDC presentation and Steam Machine support guide do not establish a 4K performance target or guarantee frame rates above 30 FPS.

That threshold is a verification criterion, not a promise that every game will perform identically. Actual performance depends on the game and its demands; the rating describes Valve’s target for the tested device and resolution.
Why Steam Machine has its own compatibility rating
Valve describes Steam Machine as a SteamOS PC designed in part to make PC gaming in the living room easier. It uses the same SteamOS, Steam interface, and Proton software as Steam Deck. SteamOS is Linux-based, and Proton enables Windows games to run on it. Valve says the Steam Machine is roughly six times as powerful as Steam Deck; that is Valve’s 2026 comparison, not an independent benchmark or a guarantee for any particular game.

Valve says the expanded program is intended to help customers understand a game’s out-of-box experience on the new devices. In its June 4, 2026 announcement, Steamworks Development described the goal as showing “how smoothly a game will run with no user work or configuration required.” The rating is therefore useful when you want to know whether a game is expected to work on the device without having to configure it yourself.

- Check the device: Confirm whether the rating is for Steam Deck, Steam Machine, or another SteamOS device. Do not treat one device’s rating as a universal label.
- Check the status: Verified, Playable, Unsupported, and unknown are distinct outcomes. Verified is the status covered by Valve’s one-way Deck-to-Machine guarantee.
- Consider the setup: Valve’s program is aimed at communicating the out-of-box experience, including whether user work or configuration is needed.
- Keep the performance target in context: For Steam Machine Verified, Valve’s stated testing resolution is 1080p and its listed target is 30 FPS.
Valve’s SteamOS overview says the vast majority of the Steam library runs on SteamOS, but its reference to over 18,000 titles is undated. It should not be read as a current count of Steam Machine Verified games.
