Valve’s Steam Machine was reported to begin shipping on June 29, 2026, but that date has passed and the available sources do not confirm current stock or pricing. At launch, a June 2026 report listed U.S. prices of $1,049 for the 512GB model and $1,349 for the 2TB model. It is best understood as a living-room gaming PC running SteamOS, rather than a conventional console.

Steam Machine price and configurations

Ars Technica reported these U.S.-dollar launch prices on June 22, 2026. They are historical launch figures, not confirmed current prices.

Configuration Reported launch price What the source establishes
512GB Steam Machine $1,049 Launch-era price reported by Ars Technica on June 22, 2026.
2TB Steam Machine $1,349 Launch-era price reported by Ars Technica on June 22, 2026.
Steam Controller bundle add-on +$79 Reported as an additional charge with either configuration by Ars Technica on June 22, 2026.

The practical difference established between the two machine configurations is storage capacity and reported launch price. The sources do not establish current prices, local-currency prices, or whether either configuration is available to order now.

Release date and availability

Valve first announced the Steam Machine as part of a new hardware family in November 2025, initially targeting 2026. The announcement also included the Steam Controller and Steam Frame (Valve’s November 12, 2025 hardware announcement).

GMKtec K12 Gaming Mini PC Oculink AMD Ryzen 7 H 255 (Upgraded 8745HS) 32GB DDR5 RAM 512GB SSD, Desktop Computer Radeon 780M Graphics, 3X M.2 2280 Storage Expansion, Dual NIC 2.5G, HDMI 2.1, USB4
  • RYZEN 7 H 255 CPU - The Ryzen 7 H 255 is a chip from the Hawk Point family and is an upgraded version of the older Ryzen 7 8745H and has 8 cores (16 threads thanks to SMT support) that run at up to 4.9 GHz, together with the powerful Radeon 780M iGPU. Unlike Zen 3, Zen 4 offers AVX512 support along with other improvements such as larger caches/registers/buffers across the board.
  • GAMING PC - The Radeon 780M (12 CUs / 768 shaders, up to 2,600 MHz) can drive multiple displays simultaneously with a resolution of up to 8K. Hardware encoding and hardware decoding of the most common video codecs (AV1, AVC, HEVC) is also no problem; playing the latest games on FSR settings without issues.
  • WHY CHOOSE DDR5 5600MHz DUAL CHANNEL (2×16GB): With a 5600MHz clock—a 17% frequency uplift over 4800MHz—this kit delivers massive bandwidth gains that elevate real-world performance. Gamers enjoy higher minimum FPS and less stutter in open-world and sim titles for a smoother competitive experience. Video editors and 3D creators benefit from faster 4K/8K timeline scrubbing, quicker renders in DaVinci Resolve and Premiere, and swifter asset loading. For AI/LLM workloads, the superior throughput reduces I/O bottlenecks, cuts token generation latency, and accelerates model fine-tuning by keeping processing cores fed with data—so you wait less and create more.
  • 32GB DDR5 RAM + 512GB SSD - The K12 mini computer is equipped with Dual 16GB (Total 32GB) SO-DIMM DDR5 5600MHz memory sticks. 512GB PCIE 4.0 SSD Drive with 3x M.2 2280 Expansion slots. Each slot capable of reading up to 8TB. (24TB MAX)
  • QUAD SCREEN 4K DISPLAY SUPPORT - K12 Mini PC support 4-screen 4K/8K output via HDMI 2.1 (8K@60Hz), DisplayPort 1.4 (4K@60Hz), and USB Type-C Transfer speed (supporting PD3.0/DP1.4/DATA). Ideal for gaming, video editing, and multitasking, it provides expansive and crisp multi-display support.
  • Custom six-core AMD Zen 4 processor, with a reported peak clock of 4.8GHz.
  • AMD RDNA 3 graphics with 28 compute units and 8GB of dedicated DDR6 VRAM.
  • 16GB DDR5 system memory.
  • SteamOS.

What Valve says about performance and game verification

Valve’s Steam Hardware Talk presentation at GDC 2026 describes the Steam Machine Verified program with the statements “All Deck Verified games are Machine Verified” and “30FPS at 1080p for Verified.” The deck also characterizes performance as “6x Steam Deck.” These are Valve’s own verification and performance claims, not independent test findings.

The 30-fps-at-1080p statement is tied to games that meet Valve’s Verified framing; it should not be read as a claim that every game runs at that resolution or frame rate. The “6x Steam Deck” line is Valve’s characterization, not a like-for-like benchmark published by an independent tester.

Is the Steam Machine a console?

It is a compact living-room gaming PC built around SteamOS and the Steam library. Calling it a console describes its intended role in a TV setup, but it is not the same category as a traditional closed console: the sourced description is a PC with AMD components and Valve’s operating system. The available evidence supports that distinction, but not a performance ranking against other consoles or gaming PCs.
