Wider game pages entered beta in August 2025, the store menu was redesigned separately in July 2025, and the refreshed Steam Store homepage became public on June 4, 2026. The result is more room for media on desktop, reorganized navigation, and a more personalized homepage. Most users do not need to opt into a beta or buy new hardware.
What “redesigned Steam Store pages” means
The phrase covers three related changes that arrived at different times:
| Component | Availability | Main change |
|---|---|---|
| Game and product pages | Introduced in Steam Client Beta in August 2025 | Wider desktop layout with larger media areas and more room for descriptions |
| Store menu | Entered beta July 25, 2025; later expanded across Steam interfaces | Combined the old left column and blue navigation bar, with broader search and browsing tools |
| Store homepage | Beta from April 1, 2026; public release June 4, 2026 | Personalized recommendations, calendar, sale sections, micro-trailers and improved controller navigation |
Valve’s wider-page announcement describes the product-page work as part of ongoing storefront modernization, rather than a ground-up replacement of Steam’s information architecture.
What changed on individual game pages
More usable width on desktop
Product pages use more of the available horizontal space on contemporary desktop displays. Screenshots, trailers and other media can appear larger, while written descriptions have a wider content area. Valve says the aim is to make better use of modern screen sizes and improve the shopping experience.

Responsive rather than desktop-only
The wider layout scales down for smaller browser windows and screens. A full-screen monitor therefore will not look identical to a narrow client window, tablet-sized view or phone interface. Valve has not published one universal pixel width or promised that every game page will have identical dimensions.
What has not changed
The familiar store information remains recognizable: media, description, purchase information, reviews and system details still form the core of a product page. The redesign changes the presentation and available space; it does not mean every page was rebuilt from scratch.

The refreshed Steam Store homepage
Valve released the homepage refresh publicly on June 4, 2026, after beta testing began April 1. Its additions include:
- Featured & Recommended: more explanation for recommendations and a roundup of user reviews.
- Micro-trailers: hovering over cover art can play a short preview, with adjacent games partially visible in some carousels.
- Wishlist sales and DLC: separate sections highlight discounted wishlisted games and recommended downloadable content on sale.
- Personalized calendar: upcoming and recently released games are selected according to what you play.
- Discovery Queue updates: more browsing can happen without leaving the homepage.
- Richer scrolling sections: micro-trailers, screenshot previews and expandable screenshots are used in more areas.
- Popular Upcoming changes: the section emphasizes more anticipated releases, while Valve points users toward the personalized calendar for niche upcoming games.
- Higher-resolution art: newer graphical assets appear in more parts of Steam.
- Gamepad navigation: controller use is improved, particularly in Big Picture Mode and on Steam Deck.
These features are documented in Valve’s refreshed Steam Store announcement. Valve has not published statistics proving that the redesign increases sales, conversion or discovery success.

How the redesigned store menu works
The menu beta, announced on July 25, 2025, merged the former left-hand column with Steam’s blue top bar. Search and navigation are available on more Store pages, and the menu groups tools into clearer areas:
- Search: popular searches, recently viewed games, categories and tags, publishers, other non-game results and a more visible Advanced Search link.
- Browse: discovery by popularity, release date, price and discount.
- Recommendations: a consolidated place for personalized suggestions.
- Categories & Tags: hubs based on the games you play.
Valve’s menu announcement is archived at Steam News. The menu work ultimately reached the desktop client, Steam Deck and mobile, although that does not mean the desktop product-page layout appears identically in the mobile app.

Do you need to join a beta?
Not to use the publicly released homepage refresh. The beta instructions were relevant while the 2025 page and menu experiments were being tested:
- Open the Steam desktop client.
- Select Steam > Settings.
- Open Interface.
- Find Client Beta Participation.
- Choose Steam Beta Update, then let Steam download and restart.
Client labels and rollout timing can vary by device, language and version. If the public layout is not visible, restarting Steam and allowing the client to update is more appropriate than assuming a beta is required.

How to stop homepage motion and hover previews
Steam provides a motion-sensitivity preference for the homepage. Open Store Preferences and disable animated marketing assets and trailer hover previews. Valve says Steam then uses static screenshots and static marketing assets instead. This control applies to the homepage features described in the announcement; it is not a universal switch for every video or animation throughout Steam.
What developers and publishers should check
Valve says higher-resolution art is being displayed in more places and encourages developers to inspect the Store Page editor for missing or low-resolution assets. Larger media areas can make weak screenshots, trailers or capsule art more obvious, while wider description space gives teams more room to explain features.
Those are practical effects, not a guaranteed ranking or sales advantage. The prominence of previews may help shoppers evaluate a game quickly, but it also makes the quality and structure of a store page more visible alongside competing titles.
Benefits and trade-offs for users
Potential benefits
- Better use of widescreen desktop monitors.
- Larger screenshots and video previews before opening a media viewer.
- More readable descriptions and clearer browsing categories.
- Personalized calendar, wishlist-sale and DLC sections that reduce the need to search manually.
Possible drawbacks
- A wider layout can feel oversized in a narrow window and may change how much scrolling is required.
- More prominent animation and hover trailers can make the storefront feel busier or conflict with motion sensitivity.
- Emphasizing anticipated releases may give less prominent placement to niche projects in the Popular Upcoming section; Valve directs those games to the personalized calendar.
- Users accustomed to the old menu may need time to find relocated controls.
Comments and polls about the homepage show mixed reactions, but anecdotal responses are not representative user research. A PC Gamer discussion is available at PC Gamer.

- July 25, 2025: redesigned store menu enters Steam Client Beta.
- August 2025: wider game pages and related media/layout changes enter beta.
- April 1, 2026: refreshed homepage begins beta testing.
- June 4, 2026: refreshed Steam Store homepage releases publicly.
What you should see today
Desktop users should expect game pages that make fuller use of screen width, while the homepage and navigation emphasize personalization, media previews and controller-friendly browsing. Steam Deck and mobile users benefit most clearly from the broader menu and homepage navigation work, not necessarily from an identical desktop page layout. The redesign is incremental modernization: richer presentation and discovery tools layered onto the existing Steam Store, with no special purchase or hardware requirement.
