But the available official material does not provide a complete feature-by-feature account of how it differs from the version Hardsuit Labs was developing. That means specific claims about removed mechanics, characters, or storylines should be treated cautiously unless backed by direct evidence.
What changed—and what is actually confirmed?
The clearest confirmed change is the developer: Paradox Interactive announced on September 3, 2023 that The Chinese Room had taken over development. Paradox’s launch announcement identifies The Chinese Room as developer and Paradox Interactive and White Wolf as co-publishers. The game that ultimately shipped is therefore The Chinese Room’s version, not a release of Hardsuit Labs’ build.
That public handoff does not, by itself, establish which individual systems, characters, plot points, or production decisions changed. The official announcements covered here describe the released game and development updates, but do not publish a comprehensive comparison with Hardsuit Labs’ work. Avoid treating a specific alleged cut or redesign as confirmed without a source that directly documents it.
When did the change happen, and when did the game launch?
Paradox’s official news archive lists the September 3, 2023 announcement that the game was back in development with The Chinese Room. On August 20, 2024, Paradox and the studio said they were targeting the first half of 2025, citing time for quality assurance, polish and adjustments—including work on Fabien—community feedback, and an expanded story. That was a planned window, not the final date: the publisher announced the game’s release on October 21, 2025.

The 2024 update also said the story would have more than twice as many endings as its predecessor. This is a publisher statement about the announced game, not a measured comparison with Hardsuit Labs’ build.
What is in the released game?
Paradox describes the released title as an action RPG set in modern Seattle. Players awaken in 2024 as Phyre, an Elder vampire seeking to reclaim their powers while navigating Camarilla politics. Malkavian detective Fabien guides Phyre and is connected to the central mystery. The setting includes the Camarilla and Anarchs, amid the Masquerade’s rule that vampires remain hidden from humans.
Six playable clans
Phyre can belong to Brujah, Tremere, Banu Haqim, Ventrue, Toreador, or Lasombra. Paradox says the clans differ in playstyles, outfits, and Disciplines. In September 2025, the publisher said all six would be playable in the base game after feedback on the Premium Edition. Earlier edition expectations should not be mistaken for permanent paid exclusivity of two clans at launch.

Four difficulty settings
The game offers Casual, Easy, Normal, and Hard. Paradox describes Casual as easing combat and prioritizing story discovery.

At launch, White Wolf Executive Vice President and Bloodlines 2 Executive Producer Marco Behrmann said: “It carries forward the spirit of what came before while standing on its own as something new.” That is the publisher’s framing of the released game; it does not establish how closely its design matches Hardsuit Labs’ version.
What about editions and later content?
At launch, Paradox listed a base game, Deluxe Edition, and Premium Edition. Its official overview says the Day One physical edition includes the base game and Bloodlines Nostalgia Jukebox bonus; some retailers also offered a physical cross necklace. The limited Premium physical edition includes the base game, the jukebox bonus, an Expansion Pass, five character cards, a journal, and a SteelBook case. Paradox announced two 2026 Story Packs as part of the Expansion Pass: Loose Cannon, following Brujah Sheriff Benny, and The Flower & The Flame, following Toreador Primogen Ysabella. The announcement confirms the planned content, not whether either pack is currently available.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How should launch-era problems be understood?
In an October 22, 2025 update, Paradox acknowledged reports of startup failures, NPC population problems on some quests, keyboard and keybinding issues, and PS5 performance problems including crashes. The same update recorded requests for motion blur, field-of-view, HUD, and character-customization options. These are dated launch-era reports and should not be assumed to describe the game’s current state.
Which claims about the Hardsuit Labs version are safe to make?
- Confirmed: The Chinese Room developed the released game, which launched October 21, 2025.
- Confirmed: The shipped game centers on Phyre, Fabien, modern Seattle, six playable clans, and four difficulty settings.
- Not established by the cited official material: A definitive inventory of Hardsuit Labs features that were removed, changed, or retained, or the precise reasons for each design decision.
For a direct version-to-version comparison, look for statements or records that identify the specific Hardsuit Labs feature and explicitly describe its fate. A developer handoff or a description of the final game alone is not enough to verify a particular change.
