What is VARLET about?
VARLET is a single-player school-life RPG from FuRyu. Its protagonist transfers to Kousei Academy, where a parallel world called a Glitch appears and strange creatures threaten the school. The story involves people being replaced by monsters, with the protagonist and friends fighting to protect the academy. FuRyu frames the story as one of self-discovery; that is the publisher’s description, not an independent assessment of the narrative.
The school-life side is more than a setting in the official description. Students can receive help through Student Support Services (SSS), and the player can spend time with friends after school. FuRyu says bonds develop through events, placing relationships alongside the supernatural conflict.

FuRyu describes the combat as a timeline-based command system with two styles. Leader is oriented toward supporting allies, while Ruler emphasizes powerful skills. Six Triad stats
Steam’s game description says choices and in-game analyses change six Triad stats: Morality, Sympathy, Altruism, Machiavellianism, Psychopathy, and Narcissism. According to that listing, the stats can affect dialogue options and passive battle skills. That gives choices a stated connection to both conversations and combat, though the listing alone cannot show how often those effects matter or how meaningfully they change a playthrough.
Is VARLET worth considering?
For someone specifically seeking a school-set, turn-based JRPG, VARLET has a clearly defined mix to consider: school requests and after-school events, a monster-threat story, timeline command battles, and choices tied to character stats. Whether that combination is engaging depends on execution, and the official descriptions are not enough to verify that. There is no hands-on assessment here to support a firm verdict on story quality, battle depth, or the strength of its relationship system.

FuRyu’s English product page lists PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with one-player support, English text, and Japanese voices. It gives August 28, 2025 as the release date. Steam lists the PC release as August 27, 2025, so the date differs by storefront; use the date shown for the platform and market you intend to buy in.
