Confirm that playlist-based 24/7 streaming is available on your account and plan before buying.
How Vimeo’s two continuous-stream workflows differ
The distinction that matters most is what Vimeo is sending continuously: a programmed playlist of prerecorded videos, or a live signal arriving from an encoder. Vimeo documents both approaches, but their YouTube capabilities are not the same.
Scheduled playlist channel: prerecorded programming
Vimeo describes a 24/7 channel supplied by a playlist of uploaded videos. You create a live event with simulive as its source, choose a scheduled start time, and configure destinations. Vimeo’s product page says a scheduled stream can simulcast to YouTube and social destinations. It also describes chat, Q&A, polls, registration, and an on-demand replay after a simulive premiere; these are vendor-described features, not independently tested here. This is the workflow to investigate if your goal is a continuously programmed channel rather than a camera or encoder feed. A hardware encoder is not inherently needed to schedule and play the prerecorded playlist.

Extended streaming: continuous encoder input
Vimeo’s separate Extended streaming mode keeps an encoder-fed RTMP event active while it receives a signal. Vimeo Help Center describes it as an Enterprise add-on, and says it disables recording and DVR. Crucially, Vimeo states: “No, simulcasting to other destinations is not available for extended streams.” That makes this mode a poor fit if you need Vimeo to forward that same continuous encoder stream to YouTube. In short, Vimeo’s documented playlist-based scheduled stream may serve the YouTube use case; the documented Extended encoder stream does not provide Vimeo-to-YouTube simulcasting. Do not assume that an entitlement or limit described for one workflow applies to the other.

Can you simulcast a Vimeo stream to YouTube?
For supported events, Vimeo documents two ways to add YouTube: connect the account directly in the event’s Destinations settings, or configure YouTube as a custom RTMP destination using the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. Vimeo says YouTube accounts must be verified to go live. With a scheduled YouTube RTMP stream, you may also need to select Go live manually in YouTube Live Control Room. - Meet YouTube’s prerequisite. Verify that the destination YouTube account is eligible to go live.
- Create the Vimeo event. For a playlist channel, create a live event using simulive as the source, select its scheduled start, and prepare the playlist.
- Add YouTube as a destination. In the event’s Destinations settings, either connect the YouTube account directly or enter YouTube Studio’s stream URL and key as a custom RTMP destination.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. For a scheduled RTMP stream, be prepared to select Go live there if YouTube requires that action.
- Confirm the event is live at both ends. Destination behavior can require an additional action in the destination’s own portal.
Vimeo Help Center lists up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 additional custom RTMP destinations for standard simulcasting. The direct YouTube integration can be part of a configuration with up to 10 destinations; custom RTMP supports up to 20 simultaneous destinations. These are destination limits, not promises that every account has access to every continuous-stream workflow. Browser-based streams cannot have simulcast settings reconfigured after going live. Plan limits, availability, and pricing to verify
Vimeo’s Help Center describes different concurrency and duration limits for event streaming than the product page’s playlist-based 24/7 channel language. Treat them as workflow-specific rather than assuming that a general live-event plan limit settles eligibility for a scheduled 24/7 playlist channel.

Pricing information on Vimeo’s pages is not consistent enough to treat one figure as a universal current rate: the live-broadcast product page gives an Advanced price, while a separate pricing-page result presents a different per-seat figure and included-seat details. Potential fit: scheduled prerecorded programming
- You want a channel built from uploaded videos arranged as ongoing programming.
- You want to configure a scheduled stream in Vimeo and send it to YouTube as a destination.
- You can confirm that the playlist-based 24/7 scheduled-stream feature is available to your account in your region and on the plan you intend to buy.
Not a fit for forwarding an Extended stream to YouTube
- Your plan is to send a continuous encoder-fed RTMP signal into Vimeo Extended streaming and have Vimeo simulcast that same stream to YouTube.
- You require Vimeo’s Extended workflow to record the stream or provide DVR; Vimeo says those functions are disabled for Extended streaming.
An RTMP hardware encoder is relevant only if your source is an encoder-fed live signal. It does not remove Extended streaming’s no-simulcast limitation. For a prerecorded playlist workflow, Vimeo’s documented setup does not inherently call for encoder hardware.

Operational details before you commit
- Check the workflow name. Ask Vimeo or check your account specifically about playlist-based 24/7 scheduled streaming, not just “Extended streaming.”
- Check destinations before launch. Make sure YouTube is configured in the event and that your account is verified. For scheduled RTMP, check whether YouTube Live Control Room requires a manual Go live action.
- Plan changes carefully. Vimeo says browser-based streams cannot have simulcast settings changed after going live. Turning a destination off and on can archive the first event and create a new destination event.
- Match event duration to the documented plan limit. The Help Center’s Advanced and Premium event streams are limited to 12 hours each; do not infer 24/7 availability from those limits.
- Decide whether recording or DVR is required. Vimeo says Extended streaming disables both.
