Void Interactive said it had ended its relationship with a Ready or Not community manager after a reported Discord comment about the shooting of Charlie Kirk. The studio’s statement did not name Kirk or the person, identified in published reports by the online name Kaminsky, and the reports say Void did not clarify whether Kaminsky was an employee, contractor or volunteer.
What the Ready or Not Discord exchange involved
Kotaku reported on September 19, 2025, that a user asked Kaminsky, known online as the game’s community manager, to add “Charlie Kirk” and variations of the name to the official Ready or Not Discord’s filtered-words list. The request came on or around September 17, according to the report. Kaminsky replied, as quoted by Kotaku and later by Game Developer: “Funny you mention that because me and my roomate are literally just talking about him getting shot. All I have to say is: Nothing of value was lost.”

Void’s statement, quoted in both reports, said: “We are aware of comments made by our community manager about a recent tragic event. These statements do not reflect our values or represent our company. We have ended our relationship with this individual and reminded our team of the responsibility we all share when communicating on public platforms. Our focus remains on fostering a respectful and professional community around Ready or Not.”

The studio’s wording was “ended our relationship,” not “fired.” News headlines have described the action as a firing or ouster, but that is reporting shorthand rather than the exact phrase in the company statement. The statement itself did not identify Charlie Kirk or Kaminsky by name.
Was Kaminsky an employee or volunteer?
The published accounts do not establish Kaminsky’s formal work arrangement. Game Developer reported that Void declined to say whether Kaminsky was a full-time employee, contractor or volunteer, and said it would stand by its message on Steam. Kotaku likewise described the status as unclear and reported that Kaminsky could not immediately be contacted for comment. The available reporting therefore supports describing Kaminsky as the community manager identified in the reports, but not asserting a specific employment status.

How the incident was reported
Kotaku published its account on September 19, 2025, and Game Developer followed on September 22. Both quoted the same Void Interactive statement, so their coverage corroborates how the statement was reported rather than representing two separate company announcements. The reports identify the Discord context, the quoted remark and Void’s response; they do not resolve Kaminsky’s employment arrangement.
