Oculus Link is now generally called Meta Quest Link. It connects a Quest 2 to a compatible Windows gaming PC so the headset can run PC VR games from the Meta PC VR library and SteamVR. For the most reliable first setup, use a direct USB 3 data cable. Once wired Link works, you can switch to wireless Air Link if your local network is strong enough.
Before connecting anything, check three essentials: a supported gaming PC, the Meta Quest Link PC app, and either a suitable USB 3 cable or a well-configured local Wi-Fi network.
What Oculus Link does
Quest 2 can run games independently, but Link uses the headset as a PC VR display and controller system. The computer renders the game, then sends video and audio to the headset while the headset sends tracking and controller input back to the PC.
Older guides call this feature Oculus Link. Current Meta software may label it Meta Quest Link. They refer to the same general wired PC VR connection.

Check your PC before setup
Quest 2 will not work with every computer that has a USB-C port. PC VR compatibility depends mainly on the graphics card, drivers, processor, memory, Windows configuration, and USB connection.
Check Meta’s current requirements before buying a cable or upgrading hardware. Requirements and supported GPU lists can change with software versions. A commonly cited practical baseline is Windows 10 or later, 16GB or more of RAM, a reasonably capable gaming CPU, and a supported NVIDIA or AMD graphics card. This is not a guarantee of compatibility: laptop GPUs and entry-level models can have different support status even when their product names sound similar. See the current compatibility guidance and GPU examples from Road to VR, then confirm against Meta’s current software requirements.
A Mac should not be treated as supported for ordinary Quest Link PC VR unless Meta’s current documentation explicitly says otherwise. Laptop owners should check the exact GPU model, not just the laptop’s marketing name. Also verify that the USB-C port supports data; some USB-C ports are wired only for charging or display output.
What you need
- Meta Quest 2 with adequate battery charge.
- A Meta account signed in on the headset.
- A compatible Windows gaming PC.
- The current Meta Quest Link PC app.
- A USB 3 data cable for wired Link, or a suitable local network for Air Link.
- Updated headset software, graphics drivers, and PC app where possible.
Choosing a cable
The cable must carry data at a suitable USB 3 speed and be long enough for the way you play. A USB-C plug does not prove that the cable supports USB 3, and a charging-only cable cannot establish Link.

- [Steady Your Game Connection] 90° USB-C hooks the VR glasses firmly, a flexible joint that is intact after 45000+ bend tests, plus a sticky buckle to secure the connection, all of these can up your game to the next level.
- [What You Get] INIU 16ft/5m USB 3.0 link cable*1, Quick Start Guide*1, user manual*1, INIU industry-leading 3-year iNiu Care and technical support.
A short cable can be fine for seated play. Active room-scale play usually benefits from a longer cable, but long extension chains, hubs, docks, monitor passthrough, and unverified adapters can cause USB 2 warnings or disconnects.
Meta’s official Link Cable is the least ambiguous first-party option, but it is not automatically mandatory. A reputable third-party cable can work if it explicitly supports USB 3 data, has the right Quest and PC connectors, is long enough, and has a sensible return policy. Do not assume that Link will charge the headset while you play; charging depends on the PC port, cable, headset state, and workload.

- “Allow access to data?” Choose Deny for normal Link use. Choosing Allow can put the headset into file-transfer mode instead of presenting the Link prompt.
- “Enable Meta Quest Link?” Choose Enable. The headset should switch from the standalone Quest home environment to the PC VR interface.
If you accidentally chose Allow for data access, unplug the cable, reconnect it, choose Deny, and then choose Enable Meta Quest Link. This recovery step is also described in Meta community support guidance.
Play Meta PC VR and SteamVR games
After Link activates, start a supported PC VR title from the Meta Quest Link app. The headset must remain in Link mode; installing a game directly on the Quest 2 does not make it a PC VR title.
For SteamVR, start Steam and SteamVR as required, then launch the game. A working USB Link connection does not guarantee that every SteamVR title or runtime configuration will work automatically. If SteamVR fails, first test a native Meta PC VR application. That separates a Link problem from a SteamVR problem.
How to set up Air Link
Air Link provides the same general PC VR connection without a USB cable, but it depends heavily on the local network. Your internet subscription speed is not the main factor: the important path is between the Quest 2, router, and PC.

Audio problems
If sound comes from the wrong device, check Windows’ output device and the audio settings in the Meta Quest Link app. Confirm that the headset is actually in Link mode, then disconnect and reconnect after changing the output. Test audio in a native PC VR application before investigating SteamVR settings.
Air Link performance problems
For lag, compression, or disconnects, connect the PC to the router by Ethernet, move the headset nearer to the router, avoid mesh-node handoffs, reduce other network traffic, and lower render resolution or bitrate if the available settings expose those controls. A new router cannot fix an unsupported PC, weak headset placement, or a poor Ethernet path. If the network remains unreliable, wired Link is the more dependable option.
Bottom line
Install the official Meta Quest Link app, verify the exact PC GPU against current compatibility information, and begin with a direct USB 3 data connection. Choose Deny for the data-access prompt and Enable Meta Quest Link for the Link prompt. Once wired PC VR works, try Air Link for cable-free play if the PC is Ethernet-connected and the local Wi-Fi is reliable.
