If you want to keep a pre-recorded YouTube channel live around the clock, Vultr Cloud Compute is only one way to do it—and it is not the lowest-effort option. StreamNeo is the most direct managed alternative: upload videos, add your YouTube stream key, and go live from the cloud. Other routes include Gyre, a dedicated AJA HELO Plus encoder, or a different self-managed cloud host such as Amazon Lightsail or DigitalOcean’s SRS stack. Each trades setup work, control, and cost in a different way.
Choose by how much of the streaming system you want to manage
A prerecorded YouTube live channel still needs an encoder sending a live stream to YouTube. Storing a video on a cloud server does not, by itself, create a broadcast. The practical choice is between managed software, dedicated hardware, and a server or streaming stack that you configure and monitor yourself.
| Option | Best fit | What you take on |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | Creators who want uploaded videos to loop on YouTube without running a computer or managing a VM | Upload media, add the YouTube stream key, and start the stream; check current service limits and storage needs |
| Gyre | Creators looking for managed cloud software specifically for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streaming | Verify current formats, scheduling, limits, recovery behavior, and price before choosing |
| AJA HELO Plus with optional PlayToStream | Operators who prefer a dedicated encoder appliance | Buy and maintain hardware; confirm the optional feature, current availability, and fit for continuous operation |
| Amazon Lightsail | Operators who want a bundled general-purpose virtual server | Configure and monitor the encoder, playback, reconnect behavior, and data transfer |
| DigitalOcean SRS Marketplace app | Technical operators who want a configurable streaming stack | Validate current software versions and build the prerecorded playback and YouTube workflow |
| Vultr Cloud Compute | Operators already comfortable running OBS or FFmpeg on a VM | Provision resources, configure media looping and YouTube output, and monitor the stream |
YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre as a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded YouTube streams and describes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder with optional PlayToStream scheduling for prerecorded media. StreamNeo is always on from the cloud, supports uploaded video up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.
Managed alternative: StreamNeo
StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream; StreamNeo loops it in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It plays uploaded video rather than broadcasting a camera, and streams to YouTube only.

Other alternatives to Vultr
Gyre: managed prerecorded streaming
YouTube’s encoder directory identifies Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded video streaming on YouTube. It is a closer fit than a general-purpose VM if your priority is avoiding server administration. Before subscribing, check Gyre’s current scheduling controls, supported formats, channel limits, retention, account requirements, pricing, and how it handles interruptions; those details are not established by the directory listing.
AJA HELO Plus: a dedicated hardware encoder
The YouTube directory describes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 streaming encoder. Its listing says optional PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. This is a hardware route for users who prefer a dedicated appliance over a VM, but the listing does not establish the current price, retailer availability, or whether the optional feature is included with a particular configuration.

Amazon Lightsail: another general-purpose VM
AWS’s Lightsail pricing page, accessed in 2026, lists a Linux/Unix general-purpose plan at $24 USD per month with 4 GB memory, 2 vCPUs, 80 GB SSD, and 4 TB transfer. AWS notes that transfer beyond the allowance can be billable and that terms vary by region. That is a virtual-server price, not an end-to-end streaming-service cost: you still configure and monitor playback, encoding, and reconnection.
DigitalOcean SRS: a configurable streaming stack
DigitalOcean’s SRS Marketplace documentation describes an open-source stack with FFmpeg transcoding, virtual live streaming, and support for protocols including RTMP, SRT, WebRTC, and HLS. The catalog page says its content was generated March 13, 2024 and includes older package versions, so check current app and software versions before deployment. The documentation does not establish the app as a turnkey scheduler for prerecorded YouTube broadcasts.

Vultr Cloud Compute: the baseline you are replacing
Vultr’s OBS-on-Ubuntu guide, updated April 1, 2025, gives an initial specification of 2 vCPUs, 4 GB memory, 80 GB storage, and 3 TB bandwidth. It walks through installing OBS Studio and FFmpeg and configuring YouTube as the destination. Vultr warns that high CPU use can cause dropped frames and buffering, and suggests lowering output resolution or increasing vCPU allocation when an instance struggles. This is vendor guidance, not an independent benchmark or a guarantee that the specification suits every codec, resolution, or scene.
Vultr also documents its Broadcaster marketplace app, a remotely accessible OBS implementation with GPU integration. Its guide describes uploading source files for a 24/7 stream and enabling the Media Source Loop option to replay a file. This specialized marketplace app should not be taken as evidence that ordinary Cloud Compute plans provide the same GPU resources or unlimited transfer.

How to compare the options fairly
A headline VM fee is not the whole cost, and a feature list is not proof of uptime. Compare the parts that affect your channel’s actual workflow:
- Administration: Who configures the encoder, updates software, watches stream health, and restarts playback?
- Looping and scheduling: Can you repeat one file, build a playlist, or schedule different videos, and how much manual work does that require?
- Encoding: Does the service pass through uploaded video or encode it? For a VM, will the source and output require substantial CPU or GPU resources?
- Recovery: What happens after an encoder crash, a network interruption, or a YouTube disconnect? Confirm actual restart behavior rather than assuming it.
- Full cost: Include storage, transfer allowances and overages, hardware purchase and maintenance, and any service subscription—not just compute pricing.
- Evidence: The cited sources do not provide comparable uptime results, independent quality tests, or complete end-to-end costs for a particular channel. They are not enough to declare one option universally cheapest or most reliable.
AWS also documents a broader 24×7 video architecture using MediaLive for encoding, MediaStore or MediaPackage for storage or packaging, and CloudFront for delivery. Its video workflow documentation describes those components but does not provide a channel-specific bill or establish that architecture as economical for a single YouTube ingest stream.
Set up and test any YouTube encoder carefully
Connect the encoder to YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and follow its current live-stream setup flow to obtain the YouTube Live server URL and stream key.
- Enter those values in the encoder’s destination settings. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Choose an output quality that the encoder and its upload connection can sustain. A cloud VM still needs enough outbound bandwidth for the selected bitrate.
- Run a test with representative movement and audio, then monitor YouTube’s stream health and the encoder’s CPU and network use.
YouTube’s encoder settings guidance says to choose quality that is reliable for the available upload connection, test representative audio and motion, and monitor stream health. YouTube automatically transcodes a live input into viewer output formats; that does not remove the need for a stable encoder-to-YouTube connection. The guidance states: “Tests should include audio and movement in the video similar to what you’ll be doing in the stream.”
Check looping, audio, and archive expectations
- Let the source run long enough to check that it loops or advances through the playlist as intended, and listen for gaps, unexpected silence, or abrupt transitions.
- Monitor a full representative test for dropped frames, buffering, or disconnects before relying on a long-running channel.
- YouTube’s encoder instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Treat this as an archive-planning threshold, not proof that longer streams cannot work.
- Check that the videos and audio you stream are cleared for use. A continuous broadcast does not exempt a channel from copyright rules or YouTube’s reused-content policies.
For a server-based route, also check storage capacity, transfer allowance, and the provider’s overage terms. A continuous encoder sends data for as long as it runs, and the cited provider sources do not supply a comparable total-cost estimate for every channel.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload your video or playlist, add the YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
