Neither Vultr nor Hetzner is a proven universal winner for a continuous 4K60 YouTube loop. If your video is already encoded and the server only relays it, compare the exact server’s price, region-specific outbound-traffic allowance and excess charges, then test the route to YouTube’s ingest servers. If the machine must render or encode 4K60, that requires a separate hardware assessment; the available provider documentation does not establish a reliably suitable configuration.
First decide what the server has to do
Relay an already encoded video
A relay sends an existing encoded stream onward to YouTube. Its key planning constraints include outbound data, network stability and the server’s connection to the chosen ingest route. This is different from encoding the video, which requires the machine to decode and re-encode it in real time.
Render or encode on the server
If the server must render gameplay, compose a scene, or encode a source file into a live stream, CPU and GPU capability matter as much as traffic. Vultr documents a remotely accessible OBS deployment with GPU integration, but that product description does not prove that any particular plan can encode 4K60 reliably. The available Hetzner documentation likewise does not establish an exact safe machine configuration for that workload. Do not choose a plan for encoding based on a provider name alone.
What YouTube requires for 4K60
YouTube’s settings page retrieved in 2026 lists 35 Mbps as its H.264 recommendation for 4K/2160p at 60 fps. Its AV1 and H.265 columns list 10 Mbps minimum and 40 Mbps maximum. YouTube supports H.264, H.265 and AV1, as well as RTMP/RTMPS, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and no more than four seconds between keyframes. See YouTube’s live encoder settings for the current details.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats for viewers. It recommends testing before going live and monitoring stream health. For 4K, low-latency mode is unavailable; the stream uses normal latency. These platform settings describe the stream sent to YouTube, not the encoding capacity of a VPS.
Estimate outbound traffic before choosing a plan
At a constant 35 Mbps, a stream sends approximately 11.34 decimal TB over a 30-day month. This is an arithmetic estimate: 35,000,000 bits per second × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000,000,000,000. It is not a provider-published allowance or a guaranteed billable total. Actual transfer depends on bitrate, audio, protocol overhead and uptime.

Use your intended bitrate and expected uptime for your own estimate. Include the audio in your real stream settings, and leave room for overhead rather than treating the estimate as a precise invoice forecast. Confirm how the selected plan counts outbound usage and what happens when you exceed its included traffic.
Vultr and Hetzner: what the documentation establishes
| Comparison point | Vultr | Hetzner |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic accounting | Vultr says outbound data transfer from cloud resources counts toward bandwidth usage; inbound data is not metered against its limits. Check the selected plan for its current allowance and excess terms. Vultr bandwidth overview | Hetzner documents 20 TB of traffic for EU CX, CPX and CAX cloud servers. US and Singapore allowances vary by plan. Verify the exact family, location and current excess policy on Hetzner’s traffic page, last changed in 2024. |
| Documented streaming deployment | Vultr describes Broadcaster, a remotely accessible OBS implementation with GPU integration and a marketplace deployment workflow. This is not evidence that a particular plan can encode a 4K60 stream reliably. Vultr Broadcaster | The cited Hetzner material establishes traffic allowances and the need for a Primary IP to connect a cloud server to the public internet; it does not establish a specific 4K60 streaming deployment. Hetzner Cloud overview |
| Current comparable price | Not established for an exact server and location in the cited provider documentation; check the current plan price before purchase. | Not established for an exact server and location in the cited provider documentation; check the current plan price before purchase. |
| End-to-end YouTube route or stability | Not established by the provider descriptions cited here; test the actual region and ingest route. | Not established by the provider descriptions cited here; test the actual region and ingest route. |
Hetzner’s cloud overview says a server needs a Primary IP to connect to the public internet. For both providers, region, plan family and current terms matter. The documented traffic figures are not a guarantee of throughput or stream-health stability.

How to choose between them
- Fix the workload. Decide whether you will relay an already encoded feed or render and encode on the server. Do not use relay assumptions to size an encoding machine.
- Choose a candidate region. Compare locations that can reach YouTube’s ingest reliably. The documentation cited here does not establish which provider or region has the better route for your connection.
- Check the exact plan and its terms. Compare current monthly price, included outbound traffic, excess charges and any relevant machine capabilities for the specific family and location. For Hetzner, confirm whether the applicable allowance is the EU 20 TB figure or a different US or Singapore allowance. For Vultr, confirm the selected plan’s bandwidth limit and overage terms.
- Calculate transfer at your actual bitrate. Use expected bitrate × stream duration, then account for audio and overhead. Treat the 11.34 TB monthly figure above as an estimate only for a continuous 35 Mbps stream over 30 days.
- Run a representative test before relying on it. Send the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate and audio; use CBR and YouTube’s keyframe guidance. Test for long enough to observe sustained stream health, not just a successful connection at startup.
Choose the provider and region that meet your traffic budget and workload after those checks. Available documentation does not support a categorical claim that Vultr is faster or cheaper than Hetzner, or vice versa.
Troubleshooting a 4K60 loop
- Stream will not connect: confirm that the server has public connectivity (including a Primary IP on Hetzner Cloud), the correct YouTube stream key, and a supported RTMP/RTMPS configuration.
- YouTube reports poor stream health: check the outgoing bitrate and encoder settings, use CBR, apply the two-second keyframe interval recommendation, and test the route and region again. Monitor YouTube’s stream-health indicator during a sustained run.
- Video looks softer or playback differs by viewer: YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple formats. Verify the source sent to YouTube and allow for normal 4K latency; the source resolution does not mean every viewer receives an identical rendition.
- Traffic usage or cost is higher than expected: compare measured outbound use with the bitrate-and-uptime estimate, then check the plan’s current accounting and overage terms. Audio, protocol overhead and time online affect actual transfer.
- Encoding drops frames or cannot hold 4K60: distinguish encoding strain from network or traffic limits. The cited provider documentation does not certify an exact machine for this workload; test the selected machine under the real encode before depending on it.
