The main differences are in their updates and confirmed multiplayer features: Warcraft I adds refreshed art and controls, while Warcraft II retains multiplayer and legacy custom-map support.
Where to play Warcraft I and II Remastered
Blizzard’s current materials list both remasters for PC. You can buy them through the Battle.net shop or access them through PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate if your account is eligible. Blizzard’s Game Pass announcement lists both games in those plans.
For Game Pass access, Blizzard’s Battle.net listing says eligible active subscribers need to link their Xbox and Battle.net accounts. Check the current terms and availability in your region before purchasing or subscribing.
Battle.net purchase
Buying through Battle.net is the direct option if you want to purchase the games rather than rely on an eligible subscription. The Battle.net page for Warcraft II: Remastered showed €14.99 in the EU listing when checked for this article; that regional snapshot is not a universal price or a guarantee of today’s price. Check the shop for your region for current pricing and availability.

PC Game Pass access
PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate are alternatives for eligible subscribers. Account linking is required, and subscription access is not the same as buying a copy. Blizzard’s June 26 discount note concerns purchases by linked-account users; its date-specific terms should not be treated as a current offer without checking the latest announcement.
What changes in the remasters
Blizzard describes the updates as a mix of refreshed presentation and usability improvements. Players can switch between original and remastered graphics in real time, so the revised look is optional.
Warcraft I: Remastered
- Updated hand-painted art and widescreen battles.
- Rebalanced classic music and previously unseen 1994 concept art.
- Modernized UI and controls, including right-click movement, box selection, and faster game speed.
Warcraft II: Remastered
Blizzard describes Warcraft II as receiving vivid new visuals and modernized controls. Across both games, the announced UI improvements include tooltips, health bars, mission selection, and increased unit selection. These are Blizzard’s stated features, not a claim about independently tested performance.
Warcraft II multiplayer and custom maps
Blizzard specifically confirms that Warcraft II multiplayer continues and that legacy custom maps remain compatible and playable. The announcement does not establish the same support for Warcraft I, nor does it specify particular matchmaking features, so those should not be assumed.

Which version or access route makes sense?
- Choose Warcraft I for its particular updates: its listed additions include refreshed hand-painted art, faster game speed, right-click movement, box selection, and historic concept art.
- Choose Warcraft II for multiplayer and maps: Blizzard explicitly confirms continued multiplayer and compatibility for legacy custom maps.
- Use Game Pass if you already qualify: confirm your plan and linked Xbox and Battle.net accounts meet the current eligibility terms.
- Buy through Battle.net if you want a purchase: check your regional shop listing for the price and current offer before checkout.
Blizzard announced the two remasters as released in its November 13, 2024 Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct. Its announcement also introduced the Warcraft Battle Chest, a bundle of three Warcraft titles, and noted discounts for some customers who had already bought specified games through Battle.net. Check Blizzard’s current shop terms to see whether any bundle or discount applies to you.
