Fatshark released Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s free Unlocked and Loaded update on September 25, 2024—one day before its announced September 26 launch. The studio said it moved the rollout forward to work through migration issues ahead of the planned launch day, not because the update was delayed.
Why did Unlocked and Loaded release early?
Fatshark announced the free update on August 27, 2024, with September 26 as its scheduled release date. On September 25, the developer said the update was live. Its explanation was to give the team time to address expected problems as players migrated to the new system, helping services run more smoothly on the announced launch day.
Fatshark community representative FatsharkStrawHat explained: “We wanted to release early to get through these road bumps that were inevitable when migrating everyone over to the new system, so it could run smoother for everyone on official launch day tomorrow.” Read the September 25 maintenance update and the August 27 announcement.
In that September 25 post, Fatshark reported that Mastery and the Shrine of the Omnissiah were fully available again, and that the Armoury Exchange and Melk’s Requisitorium had reopened. Those were status updates for that date, not a statement about the services’ current availability.

What changed in the update?
Weapon progression: Mastery and Power
The itemization overhaul introduced two related but distinct systems. Mastery progression is earned by using a chosen weapon in missions; it unlocks Blessing Points, Weapon Marks, and Perks. Power is the system for improving weapon stats by spending resources at the Shrine of the Omnissiah.
Operations and Rolling Steel
Operations are shorter, more cinematic missions. The update added Rolling Steel, in which players try to stop a cultist-hijacked train. A timer runs alongside the mission’s main objective.
