Rankings for today’s Warzone describe a different weapon pool and balance context, so they cannot establish which guns are best in the original Modern Warfare II-era extraction mode. This guide explains what can be verified, how to judge a weapon for DMZ, and why any named ranking needs a specific build and date.
Why there isn’t a reliable current ranking
Original DMZ was part of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0, in the Modern Warfare II era. No consulted source provides a comparable, current weapon ranking for that original mode. The official Warzone 2.0 DMZ overview describes the mode and its extraction loop, while the Season 05 Reloaded patch notes document historical adjustments, not a present-day tier list.
Current Warzone rankings are not a safe substitute. WZRanked’s page is explicitly for Season 6, 2026, and lists Black Ops 7 weapons; CODMunity’s stats page likewise covers current Warzone. Neither establishes original DMZ performance. Even numerical time-to-kill figures from a current Warzone tool should not be treated as original-DMZ results.
What the historical sources establish about DMZ
Blizzard’s 2022 overview describes DMZ as a free-to-play Warzone 2.0 mode built around entering an exclusion zone, gathering items, and extracting. It documents a launch-era loadout with two weapons, two equipment pieces, a Field Upgrade, a Killstreak, armor plates, and a gas mask; additional weapons, equipment, cash, ammunition, and valuables could be carried in the backpack. These are historical descriptions, not confirmation that every mechanic or access route remains unchanged today.

The overview also says that extracting with a Contraband weapon unlocked it across other game modes, and that dying with a Weapon Blueprint made that blueprint inaccessible temporarily, usually for a few hours. These details help explain why weapon choice in DMZ involved more than raw damage: what you took in and what you managed to extract could matter to your inventory and progression.
How to assess a DMZ weapon when the build is known
A meaningful ranking needs to identify the original DMZ build or patch date and compare weapons in that same context. For a loadout intended to handle both operators and AI, assess the following trade-offs rather than assuming that a current Warzone tier list applies:

- Close-range PvP: Compare handling and time to kill in the specified build, especially if you expect fights in buildings or around extraction.
- Mid- and long-range control: Consider recoil, controllability, and bullet velocity for engagements across open ground.
- Ammo and magazine capacity: Evaluate whether the weapon can sustain fights against operators and AI without frequent reloads or ammunition shortages.
- Mobility and handling: Factor in aim and weapon-swap handling when repositioning or moving toward an exfil point.
- Inventory stakes: Account for whether the weapon is insured or Contraband and what losing it means for that particular build.
These are comparison criteria, not a claim that a particular weapon leads any category. A useful ranked list would need DMZ-specific evidence for each weapon, with the build and date stated alongside its results.
Why patch-note scope matters
Official patch notes can show that a weapon changed without proving how it ranked in DMZ. For example, the Season 05 Reloaded notes describe adjustments to the Lachmann Sub’s FT Mobile Stock with the scope “MWII & WZ,” and a close-distance damage-range reduction marked “MWII only.” Those labels distinguish the affected game contexts; they do not establish a DMZ-specific winner or current balance.

Keep original DMZ separate from later iterations
Reporting published by Windows Central on 5 October 2026 describes DMZ’s return in Modern Warfare 4 as a distinct iteration. That report does not establish that the newer mode shares original Warzone 2.0 DMZ’s weapons, balance, or systems. Advice for one should not be presented as a ranking for the other.

For original Warzone 2.0 DMZ, the best weapon cannot be named responsibly from current Warzone rankings or the historical sources above. Treat any named list as a legacy guide tied to a specific original-DMZ build, and check that its weapon pool, patch scope, and performance evidence actually match that version of the mode.
