Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile launched worldwide for iOS and Android on March 21, 2024, with Verdansk for Battle Royale, Rebirth Island for Resurgence, and traditional multiplayer featuring maps such as Shipment and Shoot House. It was free to play and offered limited shared progression with Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare III. The launch is now history: Activision removed the game from mobile stores in May 2025 and shut its servers down on April 17, 2026.
When did Warzone Mobile launch?
Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile had its global launch on Thursday, March 21, 2024, for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. This was the worldwide release, following an earlier limited-release period in selected markets. Activision billed it as a free-to-play mobile game; that described access to the game, not a promise that every item or progression system would be free of charge.
At launch, players needed supported mobile hardware, but the available launch information here does not establish a complete device-compatibility list. Requirements could vary by platform and device, so specific RAM, chipset or operating-system minimums should not be assumed. Activision’s global launch announcement covered the date, platforms and headline content.
Verdansk and Rebirth Island brought two kinds of Warzone
Verdansk was the large-scale Battle Royale map. Its return was a major draw for players who associated the original Warzone with the map. It returned in the mobile game; that did not mean Verdansk was restored to the main console and PC version.

Rebirth Island offered the smaller-map alternative through Rebirth Resurgence, a faster format than a standard Battle Royale match. At launch, Verdansk Battle Royale supported Solos, Duos, Trios and Quads. Rebirth Resurgence was offered in Duos and Quads. These were distinct modes and map pairings, not interchangeable names for the same playlist. Activision’s pre-launch guide laid out those launch playlists.
Multiplayer was part of the launch, too
The game was not limited to large-map Battle Royale. It also included traditional Call of Duty multiplayer playlists and maps. Activision specifically named Shipment and Shoot House among the available maps. Those were examples from a broader selection, not a complete list of every multiplayer map at launch. The distinction mattered: players could choose between Warzone’s large-scale modes and conventional, close-quarters multiplayer.

How shared progression worked—and what it did not mean
Players who linked the same Activision account could connect supported progression between Warzone Mobile, Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare III. Activision described shared player ID and progression, weapon leveling and XP progression, along with support for certain connected inventory and bundle features.
Shared progression was not the same as universal cross-play. The launch information established links for progression and eligible inventory; it did not describe mobile players as joining one unrestricted matchmaking pool with console and PC players. Nor did it promise that every cosmetic, purchase or item would transfer. Activision advised checking for a “Connected” tag on eligible bundles in the mobile game’s store to identify items supported across the connected titles. Launch-era account advice
For players setting up the game in 2024, using the Activision account associated with their other Call of Duty games was important for account-linked progression. Activision warned that someone who started as a Guest and later wanted to switch to an Activision ID might need to uninstall the app and restart. The practical advice then was to confirm the right account before beginning and use the same Activision ID across the connected games. These are historical launch instructions, not steps for playing the game today.

Activision later ended new seasonal content and gameplay updates, discontinued real-money purchases, and removed the game from the Apple App Store and Google Play in May 2025. Existing installations remained accessible for a period, but the servers went offline on April 17, 2026. Warzone Mobile is no longer playable, and installing an old copy cannot restore access to its servers.

Activision said the game had not met its expectations among mobile-first players compared with the response to the PC and console versions. That is the company’s explanation for the service change, not proof of a single independently established cause. For mobile players looking for another Call of Duty game, Activision points to Call of Duty: Mobile. For PC and console players, its alternative is Call of Duty: Warzone. Neither is a continuation of the discontinued mobile service or a guarantee of the same Verdansk and Rebirth Island experience.
