Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile passed 10 million downloads on Google Play within roughly its first week after the worldwide launch on March 21, 2024. That was a powerful Android acquisition result, but it was not a count of 10 million active players, retained users, or combined Android-and-iOS downloads. The milestone arrived alongside widespread complaints about graphics, performance, controls, and device compatibility.
What happened
Activision released Warzone Mobile worldwide for Android and iOS on March 21, 2024. The game had already gone through limited regional testing, so the one-week milestone refers to the period after global availability, not the entire time the app had been publicly accessible. Activision’s launch announcement is available at Call of Duty’s official site.
Contemporaneous coverage from March 23–27 reported that the Google Play listing had moved past the 10-million-download threshold. The safest description is therefore “more than 10 million Google Play downloads within roughly the first week,” rather than an exact seven-day total.

What “10 million downloads” actually measures
The number was a rounded Google Play install bracket observed by news outlets, not a separately announced Activision statistic. Google Play’s public threshold does not disclose the exact count behind it.

For that reason, “10 million players” is inaccurate shorthand. “More than 10 million Google Play downloads” or “10 million-plus Android installs” preserves the evidence’s scope.
Was the milestone officially confirmed?
The available evidence points to contemporaneous reporters reading the Google Play listing, rather than an Activision announcement declaring “10 million downloads in one week.” Dot Esports described the listing as having crossed the threshold while covering the game’s early reception. That makes the milestone credible as a store figure, but it should not be presented as an official Activision count of users or engagement.

Why demand was so strong
- Call of Duty recognition: Warzone was an established battle-royale brand, giving the mobile release an audience before launch.
- Free-to-play access: Removing an upfront price made trying the game easy on supported phones.
- Mobile battle royale interest: Players could pursue a large-scale Warzone-style experience without a console or PC.
- Ecosystem links: The project was marketed as part of the broader Call of Duty ecosystem, including cross-progression features.
Those factors explain rapid acquisition. They do not by themselves show that players enjoyed the product or kept returning.

The same launch window produced substantial Android criticism. Reports described graphical-fidelity issues, poor optimization on some phones, unstable performance, inconsistent or malfunctioning controls, and compatibility limits. Google Play reviews reflected those complaints, according to Dot Esports.

That combination is possible because downloading and playing successfully are separate events. A major franchise can attract millions of installs before users discover that their particular hardware cannot maintain acceptable frame rates, visuals, thermals, or stability. Claims circulating online about exceptionally high uninstall activity were not independently verified; they should not be treated as a measured uninstall rate. Did it work on every Android phone?
No. Device fragmentation was central to the launch experience, and the game’s requirements changed over time. Do not confuse a later requirement with the original March 2024 launch specification.

Launch-era experience
At release, players reported that performance and visual quality varied widely by device. Some phones could install the game but struggled to run it smoothly, while others encountered control or stability problems.

According to Android Authority, a November 2024 update required at least Android 13 and a GPU supporting bindless texturing, causing some previously compatible devices to lose support. Those were later update requirements, not evidence that every launch-day Android phone needed Android 13.

Was 10 million downloads a success?

The precise verdict is a strong acquisition launch with serious product-quality problems and poor long-term durability—not simply “a hit” or “a failure” without specifying the metric.
What happened to Warzone Mobile afterward?
Activision later removed the app from Google Play and Apple’s App Store in May 2025 and ended real-money purchases on May 19, 2025. Existing access and previously purchased content were scheduled to end on April 17, 2026, according to Activision Support. That means the 10-million figure is now a historical launch statistic, not a current availability or player-count claim.
Players looking for a supported mobile Call of Duty product should consider Call of Duty: Mobile, which Activision identifies as the current alternative. It offers multiplayer, battle royale, Zombies, ranked play, seasonal events, and Battle Pass content, but it is a different game rather than a technical continuation of Warzone Mobile. Unofficial APK sources and purchases of Warzone Mobile currency are not sensible substitutes for a discontinued service.
Bottom line
Warzone Mobile reached a major Android acquisition milestone almost immediately: Google Play showed more than 10 million installs within roughly a week of the March 21, 2024 worldwide launch. The evidence does not show 10 million active or retained players, nor does it measure iOS adoption. Strong demand coexisted with serious Android launch problems, and the later delisting and shutdown show why the number should be read as initial reach—not proof of a healthy or lasting mobile service.
