Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsShort answer: Warzone Pacific’s 2021–2022 Caldera launch had documented crashes, lockups, texture-streaming failures, menu flicker and other cross-platform bugs. There was no single fix: some problems came from damaged files, drivers, overlays, heat or display settings, while others required Raven Software patches.
Scope note: This guide covers the historical Warzone Pacific/Caldera client, not the current Warzone release. Menu labels and support procedures can differ in modern Warzone.
Identify the symptom before changing settings
| What you see | Most likely category | First action |
|---|---|---|
| The game closes to the desktop or console dashboard | Application, driver, system or platform crash | Restart, update software, then repair files |
| The whole PC or console stops responding | System freeze, thermal issue or hardware instability | Force-close only when necessary; check ventilation and updates |
| Players teleport, movement skips or hit markers arrive late | Network latency or packet loss | Test Ethernet and latency rather than reinstalling the game |
| Textures are blurry, missing, flickering or never finish loading | Texture streaming, graphics-memory or content-loading problem | Restart, let shaders finish and temporarily reduce texture streaming |
| The menu flickers or the screen goes black | Display mode, HDR, refresh rate, driver or game bug | Return to a supported resolution and test HDR or 120 Hz off |
| Crashes appear after several matches | Memory leak, overheating, driver conflict or recurring game bug | Monitor temperatures, close overlays and update the driver |
Activision treats rubber-banding, stuttering, delayed hit markers and lobby disconnections as performance or latency symptoms, not necessarily crashes: its performance guidance.
Do this low-risk sequence first
- Quit Warzone completely, then restart the PC or console.
- Install every available game update.
- Install pending Windows, console-system and graphics-driver updates.
- Check Activision’s service-status and known-issues information before changing local files.
- Reproduce the problem once and note the platform, map, mode, timing and error code.
Activision’s crash guidance recommends closing the application and restarting when a game is frozen. Persistent console failures also warrant checks of system software, ventilation, storage and cache: official crash and freeze guidance.

PC fixes for the Battle.net version
Check the right requirements
Compare your hardware and operating system with Activision’s official requirements for the relevant Warzone client: PC system requirements. Do not treat current Warzone requirements as the historical Pacific specification.
Update the graphics driver safely
Install the driver recommended by Activision for your graphics card. If the crashes began immediately after a driver update, use the manufacturer’s supported clean-install or rollback option. Never use unofficial driver-updater sites.
Remove overlay and utility conflicts
Temporarily close Discord, Steam, Xbox Game Bar, GeForce Experience, Radeon overlays, recording and streaming tools, RGB and fan-control utilities, input remappers, macro software and hardware monitors. Activision warns that overlays, recording software and input-remapping tools can interfere with launch or gameplay. Disable a third-party antivirus overlay only for a controlled test; do not permanently disable security software, anti-cheat or firewall protection.
Warzone Pacific’s Battle.net release also deployed the RICOCHET kernel-level PC driver, which was required to play. Its deployment alongside an update does not prove that it caused any particular crash: Blizzard’s RICOCHET announcement.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Repair the installation
- Open Battle.net and select Warzone.
- Open the options menu beside Play.
- Run Battle.net’s built-in Scan and Repair tool.
- Wait for it to finish, restart Battle.net and test the game.
Use the current wording shown by your Battle.net client; Pacific-era menu labels may no longer match.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Finish or restart shader work
After a driver or game update, allow shader compilation or optimization to complete before launching a match. Repeatedly cancelling it can leave rendering unstable. Restart the game after compilation. If the cache appears corrupted, use the game’s own shader-restart or reinstall control where available rather than deleting arbitrary folders.
Reduce graphics and display load
- Use Fullscreen or the game’s recommended display mode.
- Lower texture resolution and other video-memory-heavy settings.
- Temporarily disable or reduce texture streaming.
- Reduce shadows, particles, volumetric effects and screen-space effects.
- Cap the frame rate below the monitor’s maximum.
- Test with HDR, high refresh rate and unusual scaling disabled.
- Restart after applying the changes.
Disabling Texture Streaming helped some reported Pacific texture-loading cases, but it was not a universal or officially guaranteed fix: contemporary PC Gamer coverage. Lower settings can reduce VRAM and thermal pressure; they cannot repair a defective game build.
Check heat, power and broader stability
- Keep the PC or laptop cool and well ventilated.
- Check CPU and GPU temperatures while playing.
- Undo recent overclocking or undervolting.
- Consider power-supply instability if the entire PC powers off.
- Check whether other demanding games also crash.
- Use Event Viewer or game crash logs when submitting a report.
One Warzone crash alone does not prove that a graphics card is failing.
PlayStation troubleshooting
PS5 system update
- From the home screen, open Settings.
- Select System.
- Open System Software.
- Select System Software Update and Settings.
- Choose Update System Software and follow the prompts.
Enable automatic updates in the same area if desired. Then restart the game and console, verify ventilation and free storage, and test HDR or 120 Hz off if the problem is display-specific.
PS4 system update
- Open Settings.
- Select System Software Update.
- Install the available update and follow the onscreen instructions.
PS4 texture and level-of-detail failures could be streaming problems or defects in the Pacific build. Deleting saved data will not repair a server-side or developer-side bug. Database rebuilding or reinstalling should come only after updates, restarts and storage checks.

Ensure adequate ventilation. If crashes continue, use the console-supported cache procedure. You can also clear the Alternate MAC Address: press Xbox → Settings → Network → Network settings → Advanced settings → Alternate MAC Address → Clear → Restart.
A January 26, 2022 Pacific patch addressed instability linked to pressing the Xbox Home button twice. That was a historical, specific fix—not evidence that every Xbox crash has the same cause. The same patch fixed several live-match crashes and menu flickering, while improving but not eliminating Buy Station freezes: GameSpot’s patch report.
Fixing blurry textures, missing assets and black screens
In-game rendering faults
Pacific reports included low-detail terrain, polygonal weapon models, invisible operators, distorted graphics and flickering menus. Activision and Raven acknowledged performance and streaming issues among the problems being investigated: the February 2022 community briefing. Let shaders finish, reduce texture streaming and restart before attempting a reinstall.
Output-mode isolation
Test native resolution, a standard refresh rate, HDR off, 120 Hz off and VRR off temporarily. On PC, compare Fullscreen and borderless mode. Try another HDMI cable or display input on a console. These are diagnostic tests, not guaranteed cures.

Tell a game fault from a display-chain fault
If flicker, signal loss or artifacts appear outside Warzone, investigate the cable, monitor or TV, GPU, receiver, capture card and heat. A Warzone texture bug is not proof of permanent GPU damage.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →When “freezing” is actually the network
An application freeze stops the image and controls. A console freeze makes the entire device unresponsive. Network stutter leaves the game running while players teleport, movement skips or hit registration is delayed. A server disconnect returns you to a menu or displays a connection error.
For latency, test wired Ethernet, check ping and packet loss, and use router QoS only if your equipment supports it. Activision discusses Ethernet, QoS, ping and bandwidth at its performance support page. Port forwarding is not a first-line cure and cannot repair a crashed executable.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Recognize a developer-side Pacific bug
- The problem began immediately after one patch.
- Players on several platforms report the same symptom.
- Repairing files and updating drivers changes nothing.
- Raven or Activision lists the issue as known or under investigation.
- A later patch explicitly names the crash, freeze or display symptom.
Pacific launched in December 2021 with unusually broad reports of crashes, texture and level-of-detail failures, audio and voice-chat problems, and other glitches. Caldera was the principal large-scale map during that era; Warzone 2.0 launched on November 16, 2022. Activision’s historical reporting describes that transition in this filing and this release material. Redownloading the same broken build cannot fix a server or code regression.
What not to do
- Do not download random DLLs, registry edits or “RAM cleaners.”
- Do not use unofficial driver-updater or FPS-booster utilities.
- Do not permanently disable antivirus, anti-cheat or firewall protection.
- Do not overclock as a troubleshooting step.
- Do not factory-reset a console or reinstall Windows first.
- Do not delete saved data without understanding what it removes.
- Do not assume port forwarding fixes rendering crashes.
What to include in a support report
- Platform and model; for PC, GPU and driver version.
- Game build or update date.
- Map and mode.
- Whether the failure occurs at launch, matchmaking, loading, mid-match, a Buy Station or post-match.
- Error code and whether the whole device froze.
- Enabled overlays and recent driver or hardware changes.
- Whether other games are affected.
- Exact reproduction steps, plus a screenshot or video where possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Warzone Pacific still the current Warzone?
No. Pacific/Caldera describes the 2021–2022 Warzone era; Warzone 2.0 launched on November 16, 2022. Current support pages generally document the modern client.
Will reinstalling fix a Pacific crash?
Only if local installation files are damaged. It will not fix a known patch regression, server problem, overheating or incompatible display mode.
Should I disable Texture Streaming?
It helped some reported texture-loading cases, but it was not a universal or guaranteed fix. Treat it as a reversible diagnostic test.
Why did Warzone freeze at Buy Stations?
Buy Station freezes were a documented Pacific problem. A January 2022 patch improved them, but Raven acknowledged that some freezes remained.
