There is no authoritative confirmation that AMD cancelled a separate high-end RDNA 4 gaming GPU, and no verified final specifications or benchmarks show that it was a “beast.” AMD did launch the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 in February 2025. Those released cards are the reliable reference point—but the RX 9070 XT is not confirmed to be a renamed or replacement version of the rumored flagship.
What is confirmed about AMD’s RDNA 4 graphics cards?
AMD announced the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 on February 28, 2025, as consumer graphics cards based on its RDNA 4 architecture. AMD’s launch announcement is the firm ground beneath the rumors about a larger card.
The shipping RX 9070 XT has 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, 64 compute units, 4,096 stream processors, and a 256-bit memory interface. AMD lists a boost frequency of up to 2,970 MHz, a 2,400 MHz game frequency, 64 MB of Infinity Cache, and 304 W typical board power. Its recommended minimum power supply is 750 W. These figures describe the RX 9070 XT only, not an unconfirmed flagship design. See AMD’s RX 9070 XT product specifications.
Was a separate flagship cancelled?
The available evidence does not establish that AMD formally cancelled a distinct high-end RDNA 4 gaming GPU. Secondary reports have associated a rumored “RX 8900 XTX” or “Navi 4C” with a possible cancellation, but those names and the cancellation claim are not confirmed by an authoritative AMD announcement in the cited material.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
That distinction matters: a product being rumored, considered, or reported as cancelled is not the same as AMD confirming a finished card. There is no verified final specification sheet or attributable benchmark for this alleged design, so its performance cannot responsibly be described as a proven “beast.”
Is the RX 9070 XT the cancelled flagship?
There is no confirmation that the RX 9070 XT is a renamed, scaled-down, or replacement version of a separate rumored flagship. AMD’s product announcement identifies the RX 9070 XT as a released RX 9000-series card; it does not connect it to a cancelled design. Its 16 GB memory and other published specifications should not be attributed to any other GPU.

What did AMD say about a 32 GB RX 9070 XT?
In a report published February 14, 2025, TechSpot quoted AMD gaming architect and marketing lead Frank Azor denying a 32 GB version of that specific card: “No, the 9070 XT card is not coming in 32 GB capacity.” The statement addresses the RX 9070 XT’s memory configuration. It does not rule out every other RDNA 4 product, and it does not confirm that a separate flagship existed or was cancelled.
How fast is the released RX 9070 XT?
AMD said its performance-lab testing showed the RX 9070 XT delivering over 40% higher average gaming performance than the RX 7900 GRE at 1440p. That is AMD’s own comparison, not an independent review result and not evidence about the rumored GPU. AMD also claimed RDNA 4 provides more than twice the previous generation’s ray-tracing throughput per compute unit; this is an architecture-level vendor claim, not a benchmark of a separate flagship. Performance varies with the game, settings, resolution, system, and driver.

What were the RX 9000 launch prices?
AMD’s February 28, 2025 launch release listed suggested U.S. prices of $599 for the RX 9070 XT and $549 for the RX 9070, with partner-card availability expected from March 6, 2025. These are launch-era figures, not current retail prices or a guide to present-day stock. AMD’s Investor Relations release includes the launch product and price information.

The RX 9070 XT can be compared with other released GPUs using independent results from the same games, settings, and test conditions. Useful dimensions include raster performance, ray tracing, performance at different resolutions, memory capacity, board power and PSU requirements, and price. No apples-to-apples comparison with a cancelled or unverified GPU is possible without confirmed hardware and reproducible measurements.
