ASOS confirmed unauthorised activity involving third-party platforms used to communicate with customers after a threatening notification was sent on 6 October 2026. The notification’s claim that attackers compromised a Snowflake instance has not been confirmed by ASOS. The company said names and contact details may have been accessed, but its preliminary assessment was that payment-card information and account passwords were not affected.
What happened at ASOS?
At around 10am on 6 October 2026, customers received an unauthorised notification titled “Asos hacked.” It directed recipients to Telegram and included a threat to leak data. The message claimed attackers had compromised a Snowflake instance; that is an allegation in the notification, not a verified finding. The Guardian reported on the notification.

ASOS confirmed unauthorised activity involving third-party platforms used for customer communications. It said it had restricted access to those platforms and was investigating with internal and external specialists and relevant authorities. ASOS’s regulatory announcement describes the company’s response.
What information may have been accessed?
ASOS’s preliminary assessment was that basic personal information, including names and contact details, may have been accessed. The company said it did not then believe payment-card information or account passwords were affected. This is an interim assessment while the investigation continues, not a final account of the incident. ASOS has not published a confirmed total of affected customers or leaked records.

What should ASOS customers do?
Do not engage with the notification
Disregard the unauthorised message and do not click or engage with its external link. Use ASOS’s official customer notice for updates instead. ASOS said it was not then asking customers to change their ASOS password or take another action; it would contact affected customers directly if that changed.
Watch for follow-up scams
The UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) advises ASOS customers to assume they may be affected, whether or not they received the notification. Be cautious of later emails, texts, or other messages that use the incident to pressure you into clicking a link or sharing information. The NCSC’s incident alert also recommends reviewing account activity and using strong, unique passwords or passkeys and two-step verification as general account protections.

What is still unknown?
ASOS’s investigation was ongoing in the notices published on 6 October 2026. Those notices do not establish who sent the notification, how it was sent, whether a Snowflake environment was accessed, how many records may be involved, or whether data was ultimately published. ASOS said its website and app remained available and customers could continue shopping normally.
