Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II had a one-week Multiplayer Free Access event from April 19 to April 26, 2023. It has ended. The offer covered selected Multiplayer content—not the full game or its Campaign—and Activision’s announcement did not confirm a complete list of eligible platforms.
When did the MWII free-access week run?
Activision announced the event on April 18, 2023. Its schedule began April 19 at 10 a.m. PT and ended April 26 at 10 a.m. PT. The announcement called it “Free Access”; it was a limited-time event, not a current free-to-play offer. Activision’s announcement has the event details.
What could players access?
The event was a sample of Multiplayer maps and playlists, with content spanning standard 6v6 matches, 2v2 Gunfight, and larger Battle Map modes.
6v6 maps and modes
The six 6v6 maps were Farm 18, Shoot House, Shipment, Dome, Himmelmat Expo, and Pelayo’s Lighthouse. Listed modes were Team Deathmatch, Hardpoint, Domination, Kill Confirmed, Grind, Gun Game, Infected, One in the Chamber, and All or Nothing.

Gunfight and Battle Map
Gunfight was available on Alley, Blacksite, Exhibit, and Shipment. The Battle Map was Santa Seña, with Ground War and Invasion modes. Activision highlighted the return of 2v2 Gunfight and the newly launched Season 03 map Pelayo’s Lighthouse. Players could also invite Warzone 2.0 squadmates to play Multiplayer during the event.
Was the Campaign included?
No. The April 2023 offer was Multiplayer Free Access, not access to the Campaign or a free copy of the full game. A different promotion in 2022 gave digital pre-purchasers early access to the Campaign before launch; it was not the same free week. Blizzard’s launch overview described that early-access window as beginning October 20, 2022, ahead of the October 28 launch, and cautioned that actual play time could vary because of outages and time-zone differences.

Which platforms could play, and was a separate download needed?
Activision’s event announcement does not enumerate all eligible platforms, so the claim that the offer was available “on all platforms” cannot be verified from that page alone. It did say an additional download was required and directed players to check their platform for the file size; it did not state a single download size.

The April 2023 event is over, so it cannot be redeemed now. Activision’s announcement suggested upgrading to the full game for players who wanted more than the event’s selected Multiplayer content. That is a separate purchase, and a listing must match the buyer’s platform and console generation; it does not restore the expired event.
