OMORI was built with RPG Maker MV. The strongest evidence is the game’s own file structure, which the OMORI Modding Wiki documents in detail and which contains RPG Maker runtime files, plugins, and an entry point that runs on NW.js.
What the installed game files show
The OMORI Modding Wiki’s Omori Files Index walks through the game directory. It identifies several markers of an RPG Maker MV project:
| # | Preview | Product | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|

Untitled Goose Game - Nintendo Switch | $23.29 | Buy on Amazon |
| 2 |

Ori: The Collection - Nintendo Switch | $34.99 | Buy on Amazon |

Hollow Knight (Nintendo Switch) | $38.49 | Buy on Amazon |
- RPG Maker runtime JavaScript files that ship with the game and handle the engine’s core behaviour.
- A plugin map generated through RPG Maker, which lists the plugins the project loads.
- An
index.htmlentry point, which loads the game’s assets, libraries, plugins, and start script when the game opens.
Taken together, these files point to RPG Maker MV rather than an earlier version of the software. The same guide states the chain directly: OMORI uses RPG Maker MV, which in turn uses NW.js, which uses a web browser for the graphics.
Where NW.js fits
RPG Maker MV runs its games on NW.js, a framework that packages a web browser engine with Node.js so that web-based code can run as a desktop application. For a player, this means OMORI behaves like a desktop program but is rendered through browser technology. For anyone digging into the installed files, it explains why the entry point is an HTML page and why the runtime is JavaScript.

- In collaboration with Panic and House House, iam8bit is proud to release Untitled Goose Game "in a box," packed with exclusive collectible goodies:
- Physical Edition of the Game
- The Spring/Summer Plaza Catalog, a 24-page mail-order style circular
- 11" x 17" Village Map Poster
- Premium “No Goose" Sticker
The wiki’s description covers the runtime path, not the developers’ day-to-day workflow. It confirms that the shipped game uses MV with NW.js; it does not document every tool, asset pipeline, or editor step used during development.
Corroborating sources
- RPG Maker MV’s official site, hosted at What’s RPG Maker?, describes the software as a tool for making role-playing games and says it provides graphics and music data for RPG creation. It does not list individual games, so it confirms the tool’s purpose rather than OMORI’s origins.
- A community modding guide, the Intro to RPG Maker MV page on GitHub, states that OMORI was created in RPG Maker MV and describes opening a prepared playtest folder in the RPG Maker MV application. This is useful secondary support, but the file-structure evidence above is the more direct technical proof.
Release year
OMOCAT’s About OMOCAT page says the company released OMORI in 2020. That date comes from the publisher’s own site and is the only release-year figure established by the sources reviewed here. It does not, by itself, say anything about which engine version was used.

The RPG Maker VX Ace claim
Some search results have claimed that OMORI was made in RPG Maker VX Ace. Those results did not cite any evidence for the claim. The game-file documentation, by contrast, identifies RPG Maker MV and its runtime files directly. Readers who see the VX Ace claim can treat it as unsupported.
