There is no single best graphics preset for every VALORANT PC. If you want more consistent performance, begin by lowering Material, Texture, Detail, and UI Quality, then test changes gradually. Keep any setting that gives you the visual balance and performance you want; Riot does not publish a guaranteed FPS gain for a particular preset.
Which graphics settings should you lower first?
In VALORANT, open Settings > Video > Graphics Quality. Riot recommends adjusting the main quality settings and testing the game again, rather than applying a universal low preset. Lower Material, Texture, Detail, and UI Quality a few at a time. If the game remains smooth, raise the options you prefer for image quality.
Changing a few settings between tests makes it easier to tell what helped. Compare in the same sort of gameplay conditions when possible, and pay attention to steady frame delivery as well as the displayed FPS. Riot’s guidance is to make gradual changes and restore individual settings when the performance and image-quality balance allows it: Riot’s low-client-FPS guidance.
Should you turn off visual effects?
Riot lists Improve Clarity, Experimental Sharpening, Bloom, Distortion, and Cast Shadows as optional effects to try disabling. Test them individually or in small groups. Turning them off is not a guaranteed FPS boost or competitive advantage on every PC, so keep effects that improve visibility or appearance without causing a problem on your system. Riot’s current graphics recommendations are in VALORANT Game Settings.

When should you enable Multithreaded Rendering?
On a high-spec PC, Multithreaded Rendering is worth testing. Riot says it may improve CPU performance and graphics quality on devices that can use it. Its published minimum guidance is 8 GB of RAM, 2 GB of VRAM, and a CPU with at least 8 cores counting physical and virtual cores. Those specifications indicate eligibility, not a promised performance increase.
If your system meets the guidance, compare the game with the option on and off under similar conditions. The setting and hardware requirements are described in Riot’s Multithreaded Rendering support article.

- QHD Resolution (2560 x 1440) has 1.7 times the pixel density of Full HD for incredibly detailed pinsharp images
- HDR10 provides brighter highlights and nuanced shadow for added depth - making every scene feel more vivid and realistic
- The 180Hz refresh rate minimizes lag for gameplay with ultra-smooth action. Plus, the 1ms response time helps capture your moves in real-time, allowing you to react fast for gaming precision
- AMD FreeSync reduces choppiness, screen lag and image tearing, ensuring that your fast-paced, complex in-game action is stable with minimal stutter
- Ergonomic stand allows for tilt, pivot and height adjustments to maximize gaming comfort
Is Fullscreen better for performance?
Riot says Fullscreen may improve performance on some systems. It is a setting to compare with your current display mode, not a guaranteed improvement. Try each mode and keep the one that performs and feels better on your PC.
Should VSync be on or off?
VSync synchronizes the game’s frame output with the monitor to help prevent screen tearing. Turning it off may improve performance or reduce input delay in some cases, but can make tearing visible. Test both options and decide which tradeoff you prefer; neither setting is universally best.

When should you lower resolution?
If lowering quality settings does not address performance problems, reducing resolution can lessen the PC’s rendering workload. It also has a more noticeable effect on image quality than adjusting the other options, so treat it as a fallback and compare the result before settling on it. Riot discusses resolution alongside other performance adjustments in its low-client-FPS guidance.

Performance depends on which part of the PC is limiting frame delivery. Riot’s rendering discussion explains that older machines may be GPU-bound, while newer machines may be CPU-bound; lowering graphics quality can therefore produce different results on different hardware. Riot frames VALORANT’s rendering choices around performance, competitive integrity, and art, rather than treating image quality as the only goal. Its engineering article describes a 6.9-millisecond frame-time target for a 144 FPS quality bar, but that is a design target from the article, not a prediction or benchmark for your PC: Riot’s VALORANT gameplay and technology discussion.
