For a continuous property tour at 1080p30 using H.264, start at 14 Mbps video bitrate. YouTube recommends that setting for live ingestion; its listed minimum is 5 Mbps, which is a floor rather than the quality target. At 1080p60 H.264, YouTube recommends 17 Mbps. Plan for upload capacity above the stream bitrate: YouTube advises 20% headroom, so a 14 Mbps stream calls for about 17.5 Mbps of available upload capacity before accounting for other traffic.
Choose bitrate for the tour’s resolution, frame rate, and codec
A property tour often moves more slowly than sports or gaming, making 1080p30 a reasonable starting point if it suits the camera and the level of detail you want. That is a practical recommendation for this use case, not a setting prescribed by YouTube. If the camera moves quickly and smoother motion matters, consider 60 fps—but use the higher bitrate recommendation for that resolution and frame rate.
The figures below are YouTube’s published live ingestion video bitrates, not recommendations for uploading finished video files. Match the row to the codec your encoder actually sends. YouTube’s recommendations are targets; the minimums are lower bounds.
| Incoming resolution and frame rate | AV1 or H.265 minimum | AV1 or H.265 recommended | H.264 minimum | H.264 recommended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 720p30 | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 2 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 4 Mbps | 10 Mbps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 4 Mbps | 12 Mbps | 6 Mbps | 17 Mbps |
| 1440p30 | 5 Mbps | 15 Mbps | 7 Mbps | 21 Mbps |
| 1440p60 | 6 Mbps | 24 Mbps | 8 Mbps | 34 Mbps |
| 2160p30 (4K) | 8 Mbps | 30 Mbps | 11 Mbps | 42 Mbps |
| 2160p60 (4K) | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps |
These figures come from YouTube Help’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Codec matters: for example, YouTube’s recommended bitrate for 1080p30 is lower for AV1 or H.265 than for H.264. Use a codec your encoder supports and configure the bitrate for the codec actually being transmitted.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set the encoder’s live-stream parameters
- Protocol: RTMP or RTMPS is supported; YouTube recommends RTMPS.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube’s live encoder guidance supports up to 60 fps. Use the frame rate selected for your production and choose its matching bitrate row.
- Audio: For stereo, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 and recommends 128 kbps. Keep audio enabled during tests, especially if a host will describe the rooms as they move through the property.
YouTube automatically transcodes an incoming live stream into multiple output formats. The bitrate configured at the encoder is the input stream setting; it does not guarantee that each viewer receives that same bitrate.
Calculate the upload capacity a continuous stream needs
YouTube recommends leaving 20% room above the total outgoing stream bitrate. Applying that guidance to a 14 Mbps stream gives approximately 17.5 Mbps of available upload capacity (14 × 1.25). This is a calculation from YouTube’s headroom advice, not a separately published YouTube threshold.

- Measure sustained upload capacity where the encoder will run. Download speed does not tell you whether the stream can be sent reliably.
- Start with the selected stream’s bitrate and add YouTube’s 20% headroom. Include other simultaneous streams—such as a backup feed—in the total before adding headroom.
- Allow further capacity if other devices or upload-heavy activity share the connection. Shared networks can limit an individual connection.
- Test under realistic network conditions. One speed-test result cannot guarantee that an extended broadcast will remain uninterrupted.
YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream. Avoid saturating shared Wi-Fi or the connection with other upload traffic during the tour. A wired connection may help where your equipment supports it, but it is not a guarantee against dropouts.
Test before the tour and monitor it while live
YouTube recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, then monitoring stream health and messages during the event. For a property tour, reproduce the host’s expected speaking, camera movement, and network conditions as closely as practical.

- Set the encoder to the intended resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, CBR, and keyframe interval.
- Run a test that includes representative movement and audio, rather than checking a static image alone.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room for detected encoder settings and stream-health messages.
- If the test is unstable, reduce resolution or frame rate and use the corresponding bitrate row, then test again. Choose the highest resolution and bitrate that your connection can stream reliably—not simply the highest setting your camera can produce.
- Watch stream health during the broadcast so you can respond to warnings or connection problems.
YouTube’s live stream settings guidance says to select the highest supported resolution and bitrate that can be streamed reliably. Reliability is the constraint: if available upload capacity cannot sustain the preferred setting with headroom, a lower, stable setting is the better choice.
