RobTop Games released it on Steam on December 19, 2023; the Android and iOS releases followed on December 20, according to the Geometry Dash Wiki. The changes below separate the original release from features that arrived in later patches.
What did Geometry Dash 2.2 add?
RobTop Games’ December 19, 2023 Steam announcement opened with “Update 2.2 is here!” and highlighted changes to gameplay, progression, the editor, and customization. Its feature counts are the developer’s announcement figures, not independently verified totals.

How did gameplay change?
Swing added a new game mode
Swing was one of 2.2’s headline additions. It joined the existing ways to navigate Geometry Dash courses with a distinct playable mode.

Platformer changed how levels can be played
Unlike the familiar forward-moving course format, Platformer levels do not automatically restrict movement to advancing right. The Geometry Dash Wiki names four initial official Platformer levels: The Tower, The Sewers, The Cellar, and The Secret Hollow. The wiki’s 2.2 page is marked as a work in progress, so its details should not be treated as a guaranteed exhaustive inventory.
Dash and new gameplay objects expanded the launch content
Dash was the new main level. The 2.2 release also introduced a green gravity-reversal portal, Spider Pads, and Spider Orbs. These additions arrived alongside Swing and Platformer rather than replacing Geometry Dash’s existing level types.

What changed in the level editor?
The editor received a broad expansion, giving creators new ways to shape movement, camera behavior, effects, timing, and level-building workflows. RobTop’s announcement highlighted camera controls, shader effects, keyframes, Auto-Build, and more than 80 new triggers. The Geometry Dash Wiki gives a more specific figure of 86 new triggers; that is the wiki’s count, not the developer’s published figure.
Triggers, camera controls, and effects
The wiki describes triggers for camera controls, reverse, random and advanced random, end, options, player control, area, scale, gravity, arrow, time warp, screen effects, event links, and sound effects. The official announcement also names Gradient, Area, Rotate Gameplay, Scale, and Random triggers, and calls out shader effects. Together, these tools let creators configure more than object placement and color: they can control how the level behaves and how it is presented.

Keyframes, Auto-Build, and particles
The Keyframe system adds a way to configure animation over time, while Auto-Build supports more automated level construction. The Particle Editor provides tools for creating particle effects. The wiki also lists a loop tool and additional animation and trigger options.
More control over objects and the workspace
Among the editor improvements named by RobTop were increased scaling, layer locking, hexadecimal color input, and more precise triggers. The wiki further details object scaling, expanded object limits, dynamic height, RGB and hex color entry, and new pixel-art objects. RobTop separately announced over 1,500 pixel blocks; that count is the developer’s stated figure.

What new collectibles and progression features arrived?
Update 2.2 added Moons as a Platformer reward, as well as new shards, shops, and chests. It also brought over 100 new achievements and over 700 new icons, according to RobTop’s announcement. These figures describe the developer’s announced additions, not an independently audited count.
Gauntlets and user-created level lists also featured in the launch announcement: it stated that there were over 30 new Gauntlets and that players could create lists of levels. The announcement also mentioned adjustable FPS and other additions without giving a complete inventory.

Which changes came later in the 2.2 update line?
Not every feature associated with version 2.2 arrived with the December 2023 release. The Geometry Dash Wiki records a series of later patches, and notes that The Map and Explorers were postponed, Event Levels arrived later, and some icon unlocks were reserved for a later update. Its version history is marked as a work in progress and should not be read as an exhaustive official changelog.
| Version and date | Selected changes listed by the Geometry Dash Wiki |
|---|---|
| 2.201 — January 2024 | Changed Platformer sliding options; added coyote time, Platformer Practice Mode, hitbox display, and expanded profile statistics; some item prices were lowered. |
| 2.203 — January 2024 | Added an in-depth Demon profile display, editor tools including individual object scaling and half-grid movement, and a faster menu. |
| 2.204 — January 2024 | Added borderless fullscreen, an extra orb frame, optional practice hitbox view, and reduced Platformer air friction. |
| 2.206 — June 2024 | Added NCS to the Music Library, ignore-damage and hide-completion options for editor levels, a return-to-checkpoint option after Platformer practice, and estimated Platformer completion time, alongside platform-specific fixes. |
| 2.207 — November 2024 | Added Event Levels and chests, a Secret Room, achievements and rewards, song-trigger options, bug fixes, and optimizations. |
| 2.208 — January 2026 | The wiki reports more precise gameplay options, leaderboards, Gauntlets, a new editor trace system, networking improvements, and other fixes. |
The 2.208 entry is the wiki’s reported version history as accessed October 8, 2026. Check the live version history for current status, since later updates may change which version is current.
Can this be a fully exhaustive list of every 2.2 change?
No complete, verified, primary-source item-by-item changelog is established here. RobTop’s release announcement is a feature summary, while the detailed Geometry Dash Wiki page identifies itself as a work in progress. The practical distinction is that 2.2’s launch brought its major gameplay and editor additions, while later patches refined Platformer and added features such as Event Levels.
