RB means “right bumper,” the Xbox name for the upper-right shoulder button. On a standard PS4 DUALSHOCK 4, press R1 when a game prompts you to press RB—unless you or the game have changed the controls.
Which PS4 button is RB?
RB is not an extra button on a PS4 controller. It is Xbox-style wording that a game may use for a control prompt, including when you are playing with a different controller. The equivalent control on the DUALSHOCK 4 is labeled R1. Microsoft spells out RB as “right bumper” in its controller documentation, while PlayStation identifies the corresponding DUALSHOCK 4 control as R1 in its controller support guide.
RB and R1 versus RT and R2
R1 is the upper-right shoulder button. R2 is the separate trigger below and behind it. If you are translating Xbox-style prompts to a DUALSHOCK 4, use this comparison:

PlayStation lists R1 and R2 separately among the DUALSHOCK 4 controls. So if a prompt says RB, do not confuse it with R2.

What if pressing R1 does not work?
The RB-to-R1 translation identifies the usual button equivalent, not a guaranteed action across every game. A title may assign a different action to the button, and custom control settings can change the mapping. Check the game’s control layout or restore its default bindings if R1 does not perform the prompted action.
Do you need an attachment?
No. Translating RB to R1 does not require an accessory. PlayStation’s DUALSHOCK 4 back button attachment support page describes an optional programmable attachment compatible with the DUALSHOCK 4; it is separate from the controller’s built-in R1 button.
