What chapter was Fortnite on in 2025?
The answer depends on the date. Chapter Seven began on November 29, 2025, when Epic released the Chapter Seven: Pacific Break v39.00 update. Earlier in the year, Fortnite was still in the preceding chapter: for example, Epic’s Season 36 release notes cover June 7 through August 7, 2025. That evidence dates Season 36, but does not establish the exact date Chapter Six began.
How chapters and seasons differ
A chapter is the larger grouping, and it contains multiple seasons. Epic Developer Community documentation says, “A new season drops every two or three months, and brings new outfits, vehicles, weapons, and other gameplay features.” That is a general description, not a guaranteed schedule for every season.

Do you need to buy Fortnite to check the current chapter?
No purchase is needed just to find out: Epic lists the base Fortnite game as free to play. The chapter and season answer above concerns Battle Royale, not every mode or creator-made island in Fortnite.
