GPU depreciation is a cloud provider’s accounting allocation of infrastructure cost over an estimated useful life; it is not a separate depreciation charge on a customer’s cloud GPU bill. Customers pay the price for the configured GPU instance under the provider’s billing terms. Depreciation can inform how a provider reports infrastructure costs, but public pricing pages do not disclose a per-GPU depreciation schedule that determines the rental rate.
Depreciation and your cloud GPU bill are different things
When a cloud provider owns servers and GPUs, it may capitalize their cost and allocate that cost over estimated useful lives as depreciation expense. This is an accounting treatment of the provider’s assets—not a customer charge calculated by taking a GPU’s purchase price and dividing it by a fixed number of years.
For customers, the relevant figure is the price for the configured instance and the applicable billing terms. Google Cloud says, “Each GPU adds to the cost of your instance in addition to the cost of the machine type.” Google Cloud’s GPU pricing page presents GPU pricing as part of instance cost; it does not state that the amount is derived from a disclosed GPU depreciation schedule.
What public company filings say about useful lives
Public filings give company-specific estimates for asset categories such as servers and network equipment. Those categories do not establish a standard useful life for GPUs alone. The periods are accounting estimates, not guarantees of how long hardware remains useful, when it becomes obsolete, or what resale value it retains.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Company and filing | Reported useful life or change | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|
| Alphabet, 2025 Form 10-K | Six years; straight-line depreciation begins when assets are ready for intended use. | Servers and network equipment, not a GPU-only category. |
| Microsoft, fiscal 2026 Form 10-K | Two to six years; straight-line depreciation over the shorter of estimated useful life or lease term. | Servers and network equipment, not a GPU-only category. |
| Amazon, 2025 Form 10-K | Five to six years. Amazon changed its server estimate from five to six years effective January 1, 2024, then changed a subset of servers and networking equipment from six to five years effective January 1, 2025. | Servers and networking equipment; the changes apply to the described asset groups. |
| Meta, 2025 Form 10-K | Most servers and network assets: 5.5 years effective January 1, 2025. Meta reported $13.36 billion in depreciation expense for these assets for the year ended December 31, 2025. | Server and network assets, not GPUs alone. |
The estimates differ because companies assess their own assets and accounting policies, and they group equipment differently. They are useful context for provider-side accounting, but they cannot tell a customer what a particular cloud GPU instance should cost.
What determines the customer’s cost
To estimate or compare a workload’s cloud GPU charge, start with the commercial configuration and billing terms rather than a provider’s depreciation estimate. Relevant factors include:

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- GPU model and number of GPUs.
- Machine type and attached resources, such as vCPUs and memory.
- How long the instance runs and the region in which it runs.
- Pricing mode and any applicable commitment or discount.
Google Cloud’s resource-based committed-use documentation describes commitments for predictable workloads, including GPU discounts. A commitment changes the customer’s pricing terms; it is not a disclosure of the provider’s depreciation schedule. Prices and offers can change, so any quoted estimate should identify its date, region, configuration, and pricing mode.
When depreciation matters to an organization using cloud GPUs
Depreciation may matter when finance or infrastructure teams compare owned hardware with rented capacity, assess provider financial statements, or build an internal cost model. A sound comparison keeps distinct:

- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Accounting expense: depreciation allocated over an estimated useful life.
- Cash purchase cost: money spent to acquire owned hardware, which is not the same measure as depreciation expense in a given period.
- Cloud rental price: the charge for provider resources under the selected configuration and billing terms.
- Utilization: how much useful work the hardware performs relative to its available capacity.
- Internal allocation: how an organization distributes shared infrastructure costs among teams or workloads.
For example, AWS documents a split-cost allocation approach for accelerated instances that calculates unit costs for GPU, vCPU-hour, and GB-hour resources. That can help allocate shared instance costs across a Kubernetes namespace or pod. It does not calculate depreciation or show how a provider assigns financial-statement expenses to individual customer workloads.

Pricing pages and corporate filings answer different questions. Use a provider’s pricing information and billing terms to estimate what a configured workload will be charged. Use filings to understand the provider’s reported accounting policies and estimated lives for its stated asset categories. Neither source, by itself, supplies a universal GPU depreciation life or a per-GPU accounting cost that can be directly translated into a cloud rate.
