The $425 million figure refers to Pearl Abyss’s 2018 agreement to acquire CCP Games—not its later sale. In 2026, Pearl Abyss disclosed that it would sell all its CCP shares for $120 million in stated consideration. The developer became an independent company called Fenris Creations on May 6, 2026.

What happened to CCP Games?

CCP Games, the developer behind EVE Online, was acquired by South Korean publisher Pearl Abyss in a deal announced in September 2018. Pearl Abyss later sold its entire stake in the company, which became independent under the name Fenris Creations on May 6, 2026.

The original acquisition was reported by GamesBeat as a $425 million deal. That is the public headline figure for the 2018 transaction; it should not be read as a verified cash payment or as the price of the 2026 sale. The final consideration Pearl Abyss paid in 2018 is not established by the sources cited here. At the time, CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson told GamesBeat, “We saw a lot of synergy between our plans and their plans and between our cultures and backgrounds and DNA.” GamesBeat reported the acquisition on September 6, 2018.

Who owns EVE Online now?

EVE Online is now part of Fenris Creations, a privately held independent company. Fenris said its ownership group includes senior management and long-term investors, and that Google invested for a minority stake. The company did not disclose the size of that stake in its May 6 announcement.

Why did Pearl Abyss sell CCP?

EVE Online’s May 6, 2026 announcement said the companies decided that the developer’s best next step was a return to independent ownership, while Pearl Abyss focused on its own core titles and intellectual-property portfolio. That is the companies’ stated explanation; it does not establish every factor involved in the negotiations.
