Zynga did not shut YoVille down on the March 31, 2014 date it first announced. It paused the closure while discussing the game’s future with Big Viking Games; that company acquired YoVille the following month, and the game was renamed YoWorld. The story is a 2014 ownership change, not a current shutdown announcement.
What was YoVille?
YoVille was a casual social game built around a town-like community. GamesBeat reported in January 2014 that it dated to 2008 and had grown to millions of players; that is the outlet’s broad description, not a precise player count. GamesBeat’s report also described a player campaign that had gathered more than 5,000 signatures, a contemporaneous reported total rather than an audited count.

Why did Zynga plan to close YoVille?
Zynga’s stated reason was that it wanted to devote more time and energy to developing new games. In the January report, the company also thanked YoVille’s players and acknowledged the community they had built. The planned sunset was therefore real, but it was not the game’s final outcome: Zynga paused it, then Big Viking Games acquired the title.
Is YoVille now YoWorld, and can you still play it?
YoVille became YoWorld after Big Viking Games acquired it in April 2014. An official YoWorld website is available at yoworld.com, but its presence alone does not confirm that the game is currently playable. Current gameplay availability is not established by the cited historical reports or the official page available here.
