Defeating Moon Lord opens Calamity’s post-Moon Lord progression tier, which adds new bosses, new item tiers, and new crafting options. The commonly recommended route starts with the Profaned Guardians and Providence, moves through the Rune of Kos bosses and Polterghast, and reaches the Devourer of Gods as the next major breakpoint. Dragonfolly can be taken earlier as an optional challenge, and Yharon is generally postponed until after the Devourer. Treat that order as guidance rather than a fixed lock. The Official Calamity Mod Wiki progression guide was last updated for version 2.1.2 and is flagged as out of date, so confirm gates and recipes in the version you are playing.
What changes the moment Moon Lord falls
The Official Calamity Mod Wiki progression guide lists several immediate effects of Moon Lord’s defeat:
- Planetoids containing Luminite and Exodium Clusters begin generating in the world.
- Luminite crafting options unlock.
- Profaned enemy spawns start in the Hallow and the Underworld.
- Several new bosses become available.
Exodium Clusters require a Luminite-tier pickaxe to mine, so gearing up for that pickaxe is the first practical task. The guide’s details are orientation for the 2.1.2-era mod; the exact mechanics should be checked in your installed build.
Suggested boss order after Moon Lord
The route below follows the order the official progression guide recommends. Each step notes where the guide is firm and where it leaves room for choice.

- Profaned Guardians. The guide describes them as an early post-Moon Lord challenge. Defeating them yields a Profaned Core, which is used to summon Providence.
- Providence. Summon her with the Profaned Core once the Guardians are down. The guide recommends fighting the Mark of Providence bosses after Providence rather than before.
- Dragonfolly (optional early challenge). The guide says Dragonfolly can be taken on in the post-Moon Lord tier. Its Effulgent Feathers are used to craft the Blessed Phoenix Egg, which summons Yharon. Holding the egg until later is the recommended approach, because the guide advises waiting to fight Yharon until after the Devourer of Gods.
- Rune of Kos bosses. The guide recommends these after Providence. The order among them is flexible.
- Polterghast. Fight Polterghast before the Devourer. The guide lists The Old Duke as optional at this point in the route.
- The Old Duke (optional). Can be taken before the Devourer if you want the extra loot and progress it offers.
- Devourer of Gods. The guide treats this as the major crafting breakpoint. Its defeat allows crafting the Cosmic Anvil and unlocks further event materials and recipes.
- Yharon, Exo Mechs, and Supreme Witch, Calamitas. The Official Calamity Mod Wiki lists these among the endgame bosses. Yharon is the one the guide explicitly postpones until after the Devourer. This article does not assign the other bosses a fixed slot.
Boss order is flexible by design
The Official Calamity Mod Wiki boss reference notes that the mod has an intended order but deliberately allows players to skip ahead. In its words: “while there is an intended order of bosses, the Calamity Mod offers many ways for players to skip ahead in progression and defeat bosses in a different order.” The route above is a dependable path through the content, not a requirement. If you have the gear to take on a boss out of sequence, the mod generally supports it.
Check your version before crafting
The progression guide carries a version warning that matters for anyone following exact recipes. Its text reads: “This guide was last updated for version 2.1.2. This guide is not updated for the current version of the mod. Some or all of its advice may not be applicable to the current patch.”

The sources behind this article do not establish which Calamity release is current, and they do not confirm every summon recipe, drop, or progression gate in the latest patch. Before crafting or summoning, do the following:
- Note the Calamity version number shown in your mod list.
- Open the Official Calamity Mod Wiki page for the boss or item you plan to summon or craft, and compare its listed requirements with your installed version.
- If the wiki page and your version disagree, follow the in-game recipe screen or the item’s tooltip, since the installed build is the authority.
The overall shape of the progression (Moon Lord, then the Guardians and Providence, then the Rune of Kos bosses, Polterghast, and the Devourer of Gods) is the stable part of the guidance. Specific recipes and gates are where patches most often change things.
