Spoiler warning: Choosing the Frenzied Flame ending makes the Tarnished the Lord of Frenzied Flame, and the ending depicts the Flame consuming the world in chaos rather than beginning an ordinary Elden Lord age. Accepting the Flame normally locks out the other endings, although a specific endgame item can undo that lock.
What happens in the Frenzied Flame ending?
The Tarnished becomes the vessel and Lord of the Frenzied Flame. The ending depicts the Flame burning away distinctions and consuming the world. That is the Flame’s apparent purpose and the ending’s apocalyptic outcome; it is not an ordinary new age ruled by an Elden Lord.
The game’s ending details are documented by the community-maintained Elden Ring Wiki’s Lord of Frenzied Flame entry. Its account is useful for the route and scene details, but should not be mistaken for an official script or a verbatim explanation from a named character.
Does inheriting the Flame lock you out of other endings?
Normally, yes. Inheriting the Frenzied Flame overrides the other ending choices available at the finale, so the Tarnished is set on the Lord of Frenzied Flame ending. You can reverse this before finishing the game, but doing so requires a specific item and location.

How to suppress the Frenzied Flame
- Complete Millicent’s quest to obtain Miquella’s Needle.
- Use Miquella’s Needle in the required place in Crumbling Farum Azula.
Using the needle suppresses the Flame and prevents the Frenzied Flame ending. The suppression cannot be reversed by inheriting the Flame again. See the Miquella’s Needle entry for the item’s use conditions.
What happens to Melina?
Melina’s outcome depends on when you accept the Flame relative to her sacrifice at the Forge of the Giants. If you accept it before she sacrifices herself as kindling, she leaves, and the Flame can serve as kindling instead. If she has already made her sacrifice, that departure has already happened.

There is also a timing-dependent extra scene: if Melina was not sacrificed and you complete the Frenzied Flame ending, she appears afterward pursuing the Tarnished and vowing to stop them. That scene does not play if she already sacrificed herself. So you can complete this ending without Melina’s sacrifice, but the consequence is her departure and, if she remains unsacrificed through the ending, the additional scene.
Do you need to complete Hyetta’s quest?
No. Hyetta’s quest is optional for triggering the ending. Advancing it allows her to interpret the words of the Three Fingers, but it is not a requirement for inheriting the Flame or reaching the ending.

What do you get for completing the ending?
Completing it unlocks the Lord of Frenzied Flame achievement. The exact trophy or achievement presentation can vary by platform, so the achievement name should not be assumed to describe every platform’s interface.

No special edition or expansion is required to reach the Frenzied Flame ending; it is an ending in ELDEN RING. Bandai Namco describes the game as an action RPG on its official ELDEN RING page. Its Tarnished Edition page describes a Nintendo Switch 2 edition that includes the original game, Shadow of the Erdtree, and additional armor and Torrent appearance customization; those contents are specific to that edition, not a prerequisite for this ending.
